How to open a port in the McAfee Firewall

The Firewall in your McAfee security software has default security levels set to block remotely initiated connections. These settings help protect your computer from malicious activities.

Although the default settings allow your computer to access remote computers, they block other computers from accessing your computer. This fact can cause problems if you use peer-to-peer file sharing apps which require working, inbound internet connections.

Popular peer-to-peer products include eMuleuTorrentBitTorrent, and Vuze.

If you want to allow certain remote computers to connect to your computer, configure the Firewall to allow the specific incoming connections. When sharing resources, there are several ways that data access can be restricted:

  • By port (security software such as the McAfee Firewall)

  • By settings in your router (includes a built-in firewall)

  • By your Internet Service Provider (ISP) Kroger Schedule
