Re: Alert viewer not responding

Jump to solution

It appears that the whole problem stems from McAfee using Chromium to render the Alert Viewer.  Everything is fine until an alert pops up - in my case a firewall alert as Firefox had just updated itself.  My machine has enough oomf to keep running, but delegate.exe was fully occupying one CPU core and at one point taking 13GB of RAM.  I was going nuts trying to work out how to kill it!  In the end the solution above of temporarily turning off Use Access Protection in Settings -> General Settings -> Access Protection allowed me to kill Access Viewer (killing deletegate.exe just results in another instance being started in its place).

I have now set my firewall to Smart Access, but it will be going back to Monitored Access just as soon as the issue is fixed.

Thanks for wasting 2 hours of my time, McAfee.  I'll put the invoice in the post, shall I?
