McAfee Security Center Install Problem

I've tried various ways to get this thing to install such as that MCPR program to uninstall contents of McAfee and going into the folders deleting anything that has to do with McAfee but now that I try to re-install it by using the DMSetup and the Serial Number, when it goes into the process of downloading the files after choosing if you want a 'Typical' or 'Custom', it crashes everytime! I even tried restarting my computer, unplug everything for 10 minutes and turning it back on and nothing. Can I get some help please?

RE: McAfee Security Center Install Problem

What system and service pack are you using and is it 32 or 64-bit & up to date with Windows updates? Also how much memory and free hard drive space do you have?

Plus where are you installing from, CD or online...ISP etc.?

RE: McAfee Security Center Install Problem

I'm using an SP2 32-bit I believe and I have 25.9GB free space left. I'm getting it online not through a CD. I just tried it again and it DID go all the way through but when it got to the Security Center/Virus Scanner/Ect., all 3 failed to install and told me to re-install it again just like it did yesterday. Any solutions?

RE: McAfee Security Center Install Problem

SP2...Vista or XP? How much memory do you have installed (RAM)?

There could be three factors at play here - insufficient memory, infection or leftovers from another installation.

First, enable Windows Firewall to provide you some protection.

Check for spyware/,alware using the free version of these two tools, update them before running and let them remove anything they find.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

If that fails then try running the MCPR removal tool linked in my signature & reboot and retry.

If it indicates that it was unsuccessful run it again and reboot then retry.

Another thing that sometimes helps, assuming you have either IE7 or 8 installed (you should have 8 even if you don't use it) - go to IE Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click the Reset button. OK any prompts and click Apply and OK.
Close and reopen IE and go to Tools/Manage Add-Ons and re-enable the add-ons.

McAfee relies on an up to date IE working at its default settings.

RE: McAfee Security Center Install Problem

I run Windows XP with 2GB of RAM and also, what did you mean by 'OK any prompt'? I'm also trying the three links you suggested me to use right now.

RE: McAfee Security Center Install Problem

Thanks, you should be using SP3 by now so when this is all over read here: http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?t=220807

I meant OK any prompts that Windows throws up asking if it's OK to proceed or "are you sure?", but usually that would only happen in Vista or Windows 7.

Anyway, good luck.

RE: McAfee Security Center Install Problem

I have one more question and this is with a screen shot. Does the expiration mean anything? because I've downloaded it this way just a few years ago after the expiration dates after these and it worked fine.

This is the result of my download/installation.

RE: McAfee Security Center Install Problem

Those are all ancient products and have long since expired.

Your failed install is something to be concerned about. Best contact Technical Support Chat perhaps.

That can mean lots of things - infections, competing products installed etc. etc.

Uninstall any products that may compete with McAfee and run a scan using the free version of these two tools and let them remove anything they find. reboot if asked to.
