Re: When I click 'check for updates', DAT version 6809 doesn't update to 6811?

nish_rulez...

Just wanted to update re: previous message --> "So, again, not sure if something is wrong with the auto-update vehicle or not...but when DAT 6813 is released, I'll check again (and I'll copy down any error message I get) and we can go from there."

McAfee auto-updated this time and mcafee automatically installed the latest DAT (6813) without any issues.

So, just wanted to let you know that whatever issues existed between DAT 6809 and 6812 seem to be resolved for now.

Here's hoping it stays that way!

The DAT folder in C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan.

So you already tried running the new MVt first because it addresses this issue?

http://mvt.mcafee.com/  if that is successful then no need to delete anything, but if you really have to do that to force an update then you would have to disable Access Protection first.

Open SecurityCenter

Click Navigation at top right

Click General Settings and Alerts at left

Click Access Protection to expand it and uncheck then click Apply

Leave it on your desktop until everything is done and re-enable it afterwards.

It's important as it helps stop malware interfering with the software.

As Peter said the new MVT precludes having to remove the 6807 or whatever it is folder. You do not remove the DAT folder.

Re: When I click 'check for updates', DAT version 6809 doesn't update to 6811?

Hi

I tried MVT, but it is useless. It still doesn't auto update my antivirus. even I clicked update, after a while it will say my com is on risk. I tried uninstall and install again but the problem persist. It is starting to get annoying and i don't want to manually download DAT file and install them. I really hope Mcafee can solve this problem, or else I am going to change to other antivirus.

Re: When I click 'check for updates', DAT version 6809 doesn't update to 6811?

You could probably fix the issue permanently by downloading the 6824xdat.exe from here:  http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security-updates/security-updates.aspx

Save it to your desktop.  Right-click and go to Properties and unblock if necessary, then simply double-click to install.

But if your installation is broken, whether by that bad DAT 6807 or by the use of registry cleaners, or whatever reason, then uninstall via Control Panel, then run the MCPR cleanup tool listed under Useful Links at the top here and then reboot and reinstall from your online account.

Does running the fixit tool here help?
