Unable to open downloaded McAfee software - not a valid Win32 document

For some reason, my computer will not let me open the McAfee security software I downloaded. (Double-clicking doesn't work, nor does the "open" menu option.)  I was originally told to remove the Norton security software from my PC to get McAfee to work -- which I've done -- but the download still won't open.  Once I received a message saying the download is "not a valid Win32 document."  Can anyone please help me?

To be more specific, the "DMsetup" download was originally listed as "cancelled" in the download list.  I clicked on the appropriate button to complete the download, but I am currently being prohibited from opening the file, either due to a virus or another program.

Hi jtr115,

Could you please provide certain information such as ;

What is the operating system of the computer ?
What is the version of Internet explorer ? (Open IE - Click help - Click about internet explorer )
How old is the computer ?
Do we receive any spyware/virus pop ups in the computer ?

Regards,

Actually, I found another Norton file which originally had not been deleted.  I went ahead and removed that and rebooted, so the McAfee download worked perfectly.
