Re: Received DCOM shutdown immed. after today's update.

Okay Somer,

Here's what happening so far- perhaps it's okay, perhaps not, please tell me. The info I see on my CMD screen looks quite different from yours and I have only 6 lines of info including what I have entered compare to your 11. I'm not on the computer with the problem otherwise I could place a snapshot here. I have...

C:\ documents and settings\user\>cd\

C:\>dir svchost.exe /s /b

C:\>WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\svchost.exe

C:\>WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe

C:\>WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe

C:\>

At the task bar, the McAfee grey & white warning 'Computer Not fully protected' appears

Also, I do not understand #12. What do I copy and to where?  So... where do I go from here??

If you boot the computer to Safe Mode, do you have a start button then?

Re: Received DCOM shutdown immed. after today's update.

In your command window, after that list appears, try the copy statement below:

copy C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe c:\windows\system32

What you're doing here is telling the computer to COPY that file from C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe to c:\windows\system32

Does that make sense?

newhouse & kbates: Are you saying you have no taskbar in Safe Mode? Please let me know, I'd like to update the document for everyone if that is the case.

Re: Received DCOM shutdown immed. after today's update.

somer, got the 5959 dat file somehow but I have little or no connectivity.  Any idea how I can re-try replacing the svchost.exe from the service pack files, I keep getting the svchost cannot copy because it is in use, even in safe mode.

Re: Received DCOM shutdown immed. after today's update.

no there was no taskbar in safe mode either which is why this has been such a pain, cannot run any .exe files, cannot copy and paste cannot run any McAfee programs at all. It did not matter what mode, with networking, without...

Re: Received DCOM shutdown immed. after today's update.

You could try booting to Safe Mode Command Prompt. That shouldn't load svchost. Is it possible you booted with Safe Mode With Networking Support?

Re: Received DCOM shutdown immed. after today's update.

I've got, 'the system cannot find the path specified' after I have: C:\>copy C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe C:\windows\system32

I'm going to try again...
