Actually disabling netguard is the accepted workaround a 1 minute fix. This seems to fix teh issue till the patch is released. Netguard is a firewall feature.
Hello Peacekeeper!
Wooooohooooo ... thank you for updating us about the patch, Peacekeeper! Good news, finally ... And ... here's hoping, eh?
I live in Canada, so can assume we'll be one of the last on the list to receive the patch ... as usual ... which is fine ... *quivery sniffle* ... I am sooooo looking forward to having a 'real' and 'working' computer again!
It's been just brutal having to cyber-limp along all these months.
By the way, thanks for remembering to post about the patch on this thread, too!
Take good care of you.
Erin

You can if you want to uninstall Mcafee via
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331
reboot and run
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe
Go to the mcafee site and change to the australian server and loginto your account. Download from there when I tell you it is there and you will get it immediately rather than waiting.
Hi All,
We are really apologize for the service host crash Issue and need your cooperation for the same to wait for the patch file which will roll out in the upgraded version of McAfee. We understand it is one of a known issue in McAfee and no fixable workaround, so I need all of you to be patience for the same.

Hi,
Most of the numbers got thrown in the garbage, and garbage day was Friday. But then I realized I still had a Mcafee account so I phoned them and got this information.
May 11 877673681
May19 881159766
May 23 883019651
May 29 885546663
When You phone teck support they act like they are not aware of the problem,They say nothing about a patch coming out and want to take over your computer, only to return it with more problems.
Mcafee is a good company I have had many good years with them .But someone should tell teck support what is going on.
If they had just told me to disable net guard. and a fix was coming I would still be with mcafee.
PS If you need more information regarding my account please PM me.
I agree; had there been any sort of assurance at all that they were aware of the problem and actively working to fix it, that might have helped. But after six months of this ridiculous situation, I'm done and gone - uninstalled McAfee two days ago after a very long and, until recently, happy relationship. I had disabled Netguard a few months ago, which stopped the error messages, but I was still getting the spikes that would slow everything down and prompt my husband, way across the room, to ask, "Why is your computer louder than the TV?"
Downloaded BitDefender, which is far less expensive, am on Day Two and loving it. Not only is my computer quiet and calm, but suddenly my email messages are downloading at warp speed! I had turned off the email spam blocker on McAfee, since I use MailWasher to preview my messages, but still they always downloaded slowly (about one per second, which sounds fast until you're watching it). Now I'll get 40 messages in 5 seconds or less. Zoom! Couldn't be happier.
Sorry we had to part ways, McAfee, but, just because you managed to cut a deal that gets your software bundled with new computers, that doesn't mean you're the best option out there.
OK It downloaded on my XP test box that had its Mcafee installed via the Aussie server so if you want you can uninstall properly via
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331
reboot and run
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.e xe
then logonto the mcafee site and change to teh Au server and loginto your account. Install Mcafee and reboot and let us know it issue with XP and mcsvhost errors fixed.
I suggest 1 user first try it as it is a bit of work. If you already installed from the Au server try update (it is throttled so might take a few attempts). It should update VS to build 302 and change the SC and Firewall builds as well.
My system is a Dell Pentium D running Windows XP Media Center
Edition Version 2002 with Service Pack 3, and Internet Explorer
8.0.6001.18702 and Firefox 10.0.2
I do not have the current version of Firefox because of a glitch
that conflicts with System Restore. The relevant information is

Due to getting a virus two years ago, I now unplug my Ethernet
cable every time I go offline or am online reading a long
document. Also, I open my Juno e-mail program before connecting
to the Internet because Juno's built-in browser, based on
Internet Explorer, defaults to Juno's webpage, which sometimes
has malware due to improper vetting of third party advertisers;
if I open Juno before accessing the web, the program will not
open Juno's startup webpage.
When I wake up in the morning or return from work, I plug in my
Ethernet cable, then update McAfee manually.
Two months ago, I had a problem where every other manual update
caused the McAfee Firewall to go down, which would make me pull
out the Ethernet cable, turn the firewall back on, then put the
Ethernet cable back in, whereupon McAfee would incorrectly tell
me that McAfee had been updated. I would then manually update
McAfee a second time, and things went as they should.
Eventually, this manual update got better, where my firewall went
down only once every two or three days. Around this time, I
started to get these McAfee Service Host errors.
Then, the manual update problem that caused the McAfee Firewall
to go down vanished, to be replaced by McAfee Service Host errors
announcements causing my Internet Explorer and Firefox connection
to crash. When I went to Control Panel > Network Connections, I
found that my Ethernet connection had not crashed, because I
could still send and receive e-mail via Juno, so the problem was
specifically related to Internet Explorer and Firefox. I would
try to open Internet Explorer and Firefox again and again over
the next 5 or 10 minutes, and if that didn't do it, would
re-boot.
I then accessed the McAfee Communities Forums, where it was
suggested that users turn off Netguard.
Why in the world would anyone want to turn off Netguard?
I have had risky connections successfully blocked by Netguard,
so it obviously serves a purpose as a component of anti-malware
protection.
I then read that one way to reconnect to Internet Explorer and
Firefox was to turn off McAfee Firewall and then turn it back on,
but to be sure to be on a safe web page when doing so.
I can go one better: pull out your Ethernet able, turn off McAfee
Firewall, then turn on McAfee Firewall, then put in your Ethernet
cable. Presto, problem solved, and no worries about risky web
pages, either.
I suggest not turning Netguard off. I wonder why McAfee techs
are being so cavalier about suggesting turning Netguard off.

All null now as the patch was released to aussie users last Tuesday and will be released to US/UK next Tuesday provided all goes well.
