Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

Just had a similar problem.  My laptop came with a license for Mcafee that is good for several years.  A few days ago, I booted my laptop and after a few minutes, I was informed that my pc was now unprotected.  AND it claimed to not have been protected for a few months (which I know wasn't true).  I tried to reactivate, but that did not seem to work - it either took me to a reactivation page and did nothing, or to a page that said I had to buy a new license.

I had to re-install Mcafee...but the same problem occured after a few minutes.  The first thing I did with this second install was to try to run a scan, but it only found two tracking cookies before Mcafee deactivated.

I re-installed yet again and this time things seem ok.  It's been fine all weekend.  But I've been worried about what could have caused this and concerned about the security of my laptop since this occurance.   I've used Mcafee on my other computers for years and never had this happen.

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

I have just recently started having some of these problems as well. I just had McAfee deactivate all of my computers and I am only currently using 3 of my 4 licenses. Virtual Technician was a complete joke and waste of time. It told me I didn't have a product installed to check which did not help my frustration. I uninstalled everything and started over but I feel like it is a matter of time before it happens again. I just switched from Vista to Windows 7 recently and maybe that is the catalyst as it looks like 2 of my computers are listed twice on the license screen. This does not explain the one pc that deactivated even though nothing was changed on it. They should give you an option to remove a pc so there are no duplicates as I have some duplicates currently down to the name and IP. All of my computers have unique names but since I switched operating systems and kept the names of each individual pc the same it seems to have caused problems. I am afraid to rename my computers again as my list is long enough at McAfee. If this keeps up I will have to explore alternatives and I have been a subscriber for many years. Companies are making it so ridiculous to legitimately license software. I remember back in the day when you had a disc and a code and you were good to go. Now you basically need a DNA scanner and 12 internet connections rechecking the meaning of the universe to keep anything working for more than 5 minutes and even then you will have problems.

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

This program is worthless for deactivation issues. Once deactivated it seems that this program cannot find the installed product. In the years I have had McAfee products this program has never been of any use.

Hey Chuck,

I'm unable to validate your account with my records. Could you please send me your email address to me in a private message (I mean the one which is associated with McAfee please)

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

McAfee used to be the top of the pile, but are now sadly too interested in your money rather than service.  Don't try Norton (aka Symantec) either.  Save your money, and go to Microsoft Essentials.  I guess success breeds greed... and less support.

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

Hope you are "lubed" up for McAfee's entrance.  This is not the McAfee we all used to know!  They were the premo (and they were), but they have gotten greedy, and now support you in a hap-hazard manner. Their tech support is a joke.  They just want to get you to leave them alone as soon as they can..  I have three subscriptions - now two, and am cancelling them all as they expire.  Go with Microsoft Security Essentials, and toss McAfee.  Yea, I know, Microsoft is an evil name, but they at least make their stuff work more than McAfee. McAfee has lost their way and their mission statement focus.

Once I moved one PC to Microsoft Security Essentials (free), it suddenly quit crashing randomly.  Need I say more?

Your Choice.

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

Hi All – sorry for the inconvenience caused, did you people ever got in touch with the technical support team regarding your issues? If Yes, please provide me the Service Request numbers so that it would be more helpful for me to narrow down your issues

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

I used the online live technical support several times, the resolution of which was being told I needed to purchase a special $90 online sessions with a virus removal specialist. I uninstalled McAfee, installed Comodo, removed the trojans and have been fine ever since.

A note for others with a similar issue, especially the part about being just a day or so outside of the refund date: I filed a complaint and request for refund through the Silicone Valley BBB and did get a full refund. It is very easy, their forms are not terribly time consuming, and the refund was within a few weeks. I get the feeling that they make it so hard to approach a person that most people just drop it and chalk it up as a loss, therefore they end up winning. If you have 30 minutes and are at a complete loss to deal with them any longer, do give the other option a try. Worked for me at least.

Would have rather resolved the issue directly with the company than get a third party involved, but they left me no option as they created an impossible maze to try to navigate for complaints or assistance. Seems like they would alert their support staff as to this general issue so it could be handled better from the get go instead of making consumers run the gauntlet with no resolution at the end.

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

"SR-614360627" - no response yet..!!!

I've just renewed my McAfee Total Protection (3-user license + 3 extra) - I'm using 5 out of 6 but on my own PC McAfee keeps deactivating. All other computers works fine.

Software is validated OK - account seems OK but my computer shows three times incl. the one which shows "Active" and "Activated"

The problem started yesterday and I have never had this kind of problem before (been using McAfee for many years....)

I'm running Win7 Ultimate 32-bit

Any good solutions.?

(I'm from Denmark)

Re: McAfee keeps deactivating

Hi Mountainking,

Your previous service request number did not get completed i,e it was not fully registered and that's the reason for not receiving a response . Please click on this link http://service.mcafee.com/TechSupportHome.aspx?lc=1030&sg=TS and get connected with our technicians so that they help you fix the problem remotely.
