Hi,
I am currently having a problem to update my antivrus (mcafee internet security) on my acer laptop, which started recently. I have not had any such problem throughout the year.
The auto update has not been working for some days now and I cannot install updates manually aswell. When I try installing DAT update files, it says something like " cant find any qualified McAfee products" when I am currently running the McAfee program.
My operating system is Windows XP, I am connected to internet through wireless connection and I have no other security software installed except McAfee internet security.
Could I get some assistance please in fixing this?

Hi winterfall,
could you please attach an image of the exact error message that you get while updating the product?
I have attached an image, the message is in swedish but if translated it would be "not able to find any qualified McAfee products". When searching for updates, the program doesnt seem to ever find any updates either.
Hi,
Click on Windows start button,
Click on Run(you could get that alternately by pressing Windows Key and R on your keyboard or from Start >> All programs list >> Accessories >> Run)
Type inetcpl.cpl on searchbar
Select ‘connection’ tab.. There you could see ‘Lan Settings’, click on that.
Uncheck all the box under ‘Proxy Server’
Now click on ‘Ok’.
Click on Security Tab.
Select Trusted Sites.
Click on Sites Button.
Remove all the McAfee Site Entries from that list
Now Click 'Ok', 'Ok'.
Click on Windows start button,
Click on Run.
Type drivers in that.
Open etc folder
Open Hosts file in notepad
Delete all the entries under 127.0.0.1 local host
Now save that file and close that.
Try to update McAfee.
I have followed the steps all the steps you told me to do, and Ive done a restart but I still cant update McAfee. I get messages telling me to check my internet connection though, my internet is working fine. Still get the same error message when trying the manual update aswell.

Type CMD in that.
On the command prompt window type ping download.mcafee.com
You should get some reply from any of the server.
Please let us know the ip address from which you get the reply.
I am getting a reply from 127.0.0.1: byte 32 tid < 1 ms TTL=128
Click on Run.
Type drivers in that.
Open etc folder
Open Hosts file in notepad
Delete all the entries under # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host and paste the entries
127.0.0.1 localhost
64.71.248.152 download.mcafee.com
64.208.176.57 download.mcafee.com
Now save that file.
Click on Run.
Type cmd in that.
Type ipconfig /flushdns
Type ping download.mcafee.com
It should now give reply other than 127.0.0.1
after that try to update McAfee.
