How do I get my McAfee anti-spam toolbar and spam mail folder working again?
Outlook 2003 gives me an error when I launch that says:
Outlook experienced a serious error the last time the add-in 'mcafee addin' was opened. Would you like to disable this add-in?
It won't launch successfully unless I say yes.
I uninstalled McAfee Total Protection, restarted the machine, and reinstalled it. I opened Outlook and re-enabled the add-in. Same error.
How do I fix this?
Windows XP Pro
Outlook 2003 SP3
I have experienced the same problem and cannot do something else than let Outlook disable the addin.
Is there a fix for it ?
Thanks
Can't find fix for problem with Anti-Spam with Outlook 2003. Using Internet Security 2013 with Windows 8 (64-bit). Hoping by replying to bring this topic back to the top.
Okay found temporary fix. The problem is with the toolbar being compatible with Outlook. The spam filtering function still can work without the toolbar.
1. Open McAfee Security Center and go to "Web and Email Protection"
2. Select "Anti-Spam"
3. Select "Anti-Spam Toolbar"
4. Uncheck "Outlook" under the Display Anti-Spam Toolbar
5. Select "Apply" and Close Security System
6. Launch Outlook 2003
7. Under Help menu, select "About Microsoft Office Outlook"
8. Select "Disabled Items"
9. Select "msokladd.dll" and select :"Enable"
10. Close Outlook and restart - hopefully it should start with no error message this time.
At this point the SPAM filtering is in place, but the SPAM mail will not be moved to a different folder, but will remain in the inbox (which is pretty stupid). McAfee Antispam puts the label [SPAM] in the subject line of all spam that it has identified. We will now create a folder to accept that mail and create a rule to move all mail with that [SPAM] label to that folder.
1. Right click on "Inbox" and select "New Folder"
2. For the folder name, choose "McAfee Anti-Spam" and put it anywhere you like
3. Under Tools menu, select "Rules and Alerts"
4. Under E-mail Rules tab, select "New Rule..."
5. In Rules Wizard pop-up, select "Start creating a rule from a template"
6. In Step 1, Under Stay Organized, select "Move Messages with specific words in the subject to a folder"
7. In Step 2, step 2 select "specific words" and add [SPAM] to the search list and select Add and OK
8 Select Specified Folder and select the appropriate folder for the spam.
9. Hit Finish
At this point, the McAfee Anti-Spam should be function just like the older versions of it. Good luck.
Interesting Btw what version of mcafee is this 11.6 or 12.1?
Have not got outlook to test it on but will think on this
AnteSpam Version: 12.6
Build: 12.6.144
Last Update: 12/28/2012
Content Version: 3963
Content update: 12/29/2012 6:27:26 AM
Engine version: 3.0.0.421
Just installed it on Windows 8 (Originally had McAfee 2012 Internet Security, but it was incompatible with new OS)
Sorry, you may have meant what version of the Security Center
Security Center Version 11.6
Build: 11.6.443
Last Update: 12/28/2012
12.1 runs better with windows 8. If you have a mcafee subscription and mcafee bought at a store or from Mcafee you can uninstall it and install the new version from either teh Au/Us/Uk or Ca servers. These give english versions only at this time.
Make sure you uninstall via
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331
reboot and run
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe
and reinstall from your account
A FAQ on the toolbar and outlook 2003 only I I see that might help

Thanks, that worked for me. It is still confusing that I was not automatically updated to 12.1 when I originally installed the software this past week (especially since the installation software on the CD goes to the web to download the "latest version")
May need to be via an account or not via cd maybe that uses another server. 12.1 is not as yet available via updates only new installs in english from those countries I mentioned. So 12.1 works for you Ok?
