Service Host has stopped working in Windows 7 64-bit

Jump to solution

I installed the latest version of Internet Security on a new Windows 7 64-bit laptop.  Every hour or so, I get an error message that reads, "McAfee Service Host has stopped working."  Windows Defender is off.  No other Internet security programs are installed.   Virtual Technician finds no problems. Any suggestions regarding possible causes?

Issue due to HP cloud software /Zumo drive clashing with Mcafee. Issue being looked into..... Peacekeeper

You are not the only 1 but only 1 other post currently https://community.mcafee.com/thread/30358

I was about to suggest uninstall reinstall via the removal tool but he (other poster) did that. It would, however, be maybe worth doing as if we get a tech involved he will do that.

Removal uses MCPR available in useful links tab above.

I will ask my contacts as well while you try that

Can you post your product builds and version numbers.

Thanks a bunch!  Two things occurred, I don't know which to credit for the fix.  I shut down the computer and installed quite a few Windows 7 updates, plus I uninstalled/reinstalled McAfee after reboot.  I am not getting the Service Host has stopped working messages anymore.

I really, really appreciate the help.

Cross fingers hope that helped you. If any issues pop back.

Sorry to report that I am getting the host message again.  I can not find the McAfee version number... if that would be helpful, could you let me know where to look for it?  Thank you for your time.

I found the version and build numbers, but each component has its own.  The Security Center version is 10.5 build 10.5.221, last updated 12/26/2010.  If it would be helpful to know the other version and build numbers, I'd be happy to list them here. Thanks!

You appear to have the latest security centre version. Can you take a pic of the popup message. I have to wait for 1 of the techs to reply as this in not normal and not common. Also wrong time of the year to get replies

The following is a screen shot of the error messages that appear simultaneously.  If I click cancel on the second (send information about the problem), both windows close.  If I chose to send information, it appears to hang.  Thanks!  I understand it's a busy time of year. -- jt
