installing paid product to a new Dell which came with free version

I've purchased McAfee "total protection" for 5 computers. I currently have it installed on 2 PCs and an Ipad. I just purchased a new Dell and it came with a "free" version- which I think is for 30 days. Do I need to first uninstall the "free" version on the new Dell before installing the paid version? To install the paid product, I think I can log on to McAfee from the new Dell and download it, then install it. Most likely I don't need to first uninstall the free version but I want to be sure in order to not mess up the new Dell.

Hi @joezo,

Greetings from McAfee.

Kindly follow the steps in the knowledge article to uninstall the McAfee application and then install your new McAfee by logging to your McAfee account.

Re: installing paid product to a new Dell which came with free version

Krishna55,

I'm wondering. I do have the free version running on my new Dell with W11 though I haven't activated it. From the instructions you sent me to- I'm supposed to activate it before uninstalling it. But what if I simply uninstall it before going to McAfee's web site to install it since I have more devices based on my purchased product? Would that not succeed? The instructions do say it's best to first activate it but I'd like to understand why before I do it when simply uninstalling it seems to make sense.

Krishna55,

I got a bit confused with the instructions so I called your tech support and that fellow was extremely helpful - he took control of my Dell and did what was necessary.

thanks again to you and the tech,

Joe Z
