Total Protection update 1.9.253 no longer has Update Settings or user controlled updates

So, three times now my Total Protection was automatically updated to a newer version of the application in the background. Each new version was missing the “Update Settings” that allows the user (me) to indicate whether to allow the app to update automatically, have it download the updates but wait until the user installs them manually, or wait until the user downloads and installs them manually. Additionally, when the user attempts to manually “check for updates,” what is displayed is a screen that indicates that the application is completely up to date. There is no visual indication of percentages (25%... 50%...75%... 100%) of the app checking for updates like it used to do. It’s just--  BOOM -- the screen says I have the latest updates. After two weeks of this occurring, I realized that I have no idea if the app is really updating.

Twice, tech support reverted my application to the previous version and it worked as before, but then the app would of course automatically update in the background to the newer version. The current one is 1.9.253. Again, there are no Update Settings, and if I "check for updates" I just get the screen that says I have the latest updates.

Tech Support today tells me that this is a FEATURE of the new version. That McAfee did away with the Update Settings and the user's ability to control updates. I'm supposed to trust that the app is updating with the latest anti-virus files instead of visually seeing the app update.

Can anyone else confirm that what I was told is true? This is a FEATURE? If so, I think it's a mistake. Please bring back the Update Settings, McAfee.

Hi @RBinPerson

Greetings from the McAfee.

Sorry for the delay response.

We have shared your valuable feedback to the concern team on the latest version of McAfee software which is for manual update control from the user end. We shall keep you updated on the progress once we receive an update on it.

Thank you for your patience!

Regards,
Venkat

Re: Total Protection update 1.9.253 no longer has Update Settings or user controlled updates

I've had this problem for more than a month.

I start with McAfee Total Protection installed on my FOUR computers and they show up in My Account > My Apps.

At least a dozen times (total for FOUR computers), something has uninstalled my McAfee Total Protection and it's been replaced by 1.9.253.1 and there's NO indication of ANY computers in My Account > My Apps.

The only thing I've found googling 1.9.253.1 is this garbage. It says it's specifically for version 1.9.253.1 ... https://www.advanceduninstaller.com/McAfee-97c747a93ce1c266b8ea2a3591e064aa-application.htm

Thinking back, it might have started when I downloaded PC Optimizer.

Again, this has happened on my FOUR computers. I've had to uninstall 1.9.253.1 and re-install McAfee Total Protection more than a dozen times. One of my computers just came out of the box and McAfee Total Protection (and PC optimizer) was installed 2 days before it happened.

I can only assume that my virus protection, designed to keep viruses out, lets a virus in that changes my virus protection.
