Re: Stop McAfee Popups

There is no way to get this stopped. It's official, confirmed by McAfee's own customer support (I was extremely surprised by their nonchalant response about it). As soon as my subscription is done in December I'll dump them, so if anyone has a good antivirus recommendation I'd be happy to hear it.

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

Finally got sick of the adware and canceled my subscription.

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

Me too. It is annoying and ironic that this product with "Total Protection" in its name keeps trying to up-sell with intrusive adware and no way to disable it. If this is not fixed, I will not renew my subscription.

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

It's Sept 2023, and I get the same thing, annoying pop-ups and no way to suppress them (Information Alerts tab is blank, no configurable options).

McAfee came pre-installed on my laptop and I will be dumping this product at the end of its trial period.

That's what happens when you don't listen to your customers- they end up leaving you.  Thanks for nothing McAfee!

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

Same for me.
SO annoying.
There should be a way to stop this daily pop up.

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

I actually found a way to stop it, and it is a 4-step process:

  1. Go to your McAfee account, and log in
  2. Go to "Payment preferences" or something like that
  3. Uncheck the "auto-renewal" box
  4. Once your subscription ends, get another antivirus.

Mine will end in about 3 weeks. After that I'll be getting Bit Defender.

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

Hi,

I like the solution of just ending your McAfee account, but I've got 263 days left until my renewal, so that feels like a waste.
It's such an easy thing that they should anyway resolve 😞

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

Open the McAfee Total Protection software on your computer. Look for settings related to notifications, alerts, or popups. Disable any options that seem related to promotional or informational messages. If the popups are related to specific features (like VPN, web security, email security), check if you can disable those features individually. Navigate through the settings to find options for each feature and turn off any notificationsor alerts. Some antivirus software has advanced settings where you can customize the level of notifications. Check if there are advanced settings in McAfee that allow you to control the type and frequency of notifications.

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

None of this will work. I even let a McAfee employee take remote control over my computer to try and get the pop ups to stop and they ended up admitting they could do nothing. McAfee is basically anti-adware with built in adware at this point.

Re: Stop McAfee Popups

Don't forget to back up important data before making significant changes to your system. If none of these steps worked to solve the problem, it may be worth considering alternative security software that doesn't cause nasty pop-ups. Try buy proxies to replace the already old and hackneyed ways. Always be careful when making changes to your security settings and software, and make sure you have a reliable security solution.
