McAfee VPN interferes with Do Not Disturb on iPhone

I have McAfee Total Protection for 5 devices.

A problem occurred last year that involves McAfee VPN. I installed McAfee VPN on my iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 16. In a university lecture hall, I set the iPhone's Focus mode for Do Not Disturb to "until the end of this event" where "this event" was the class on the iPhone's calendar app. In the middle of the lecture, I got a phone call that broke through the Do Not Disturb. Text messages also broke through the Do Not Disturb. The lecturer and students were upset with me. It happened 3 times on 3 different days.

I contacted Apple Support. Apple Support was able to diagnose the cause of the problem (McAfee VPN) but was not able to fix it on their end. Here is Apple Support's troubleshooting method that points the finger at McAfee VPN:

Turn ON McAfee VPN on the iPhone. Set the iPhone's Focus Mode for Do Not Disturb (DND) to "Until the end of this event." Make a call or send a text from another phone. The phone call or text will break through the DND (the DND fails to work).

Turn OFF McAfee VPN on the iPhone. Set the iPhone's Focus Mode for DND to "Until the end of this event." Make a call or send a text from another phone. The phone call or text will NOT break through the DND (the DND works properly).

Since Apple could not fix it on their end, I am seeking McAfee's advice.

I have not found the way to "add the phone app to the exclusion list under McAfee secure VPN." It is not in the iPhone's McAfee VPN app under settings. The only items listed under Secure VPN Settings are:

). When to protect me; 2) VPN protocol; and 3) Reinstall VPN.

It is not in the iPhone Settings app under McAfee. The only items listed there are:

1) Siri & Search; 2) Notifications; 3) Background App Refresh; and 4) Cellular Data.

Where may I find this setting that you mentioned?
