Re: "McChHost.exe" process under cmd.exe?

Hi dougk_t3!

SiteAdvisor isn't listed at all on the Extensions tab because I deleted it, i.e. clicked on the trash can icon.

McAfee SiteAdvisor - 2014_0205b - Chrome extensions.JPG

For any other extension I'd deleted and then wanted back I'd click on the Get more extensions link and find it in the Chrome Web Store, but that won't work in this case because SiteAdvisor isn't listed there.  So I need another solution.

Re: "McChHost.exe" process under cmd.exe?

It looks like you'll have to reinstall SiteAdvisor to get it back into all Chrome profiles.

While I can't immediately find SA in the Chrome Store either, I know they have a copy of it.  Besides being told they have it, my SA Extension was the same as you have "SiteAdvisor 1.65.118.5" but it just updated to "SiteAdvisor 2.6.5.1091" automatically.  This update *comes* from the Chrome Store.  Which probably means one of two things: 1) I missed it or 2) perhaps the Chrome Store has applied a 'hidden' setting.

For now, I'd suggest reinstalling from siteadvisor.com.

Re: "McChHost.exe" process under cmd.exe?

Update:

You can get the SiteAdvisor extension for Chrome by going to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/siteadvisor/fheoggkfdfchfphceeifdbepaooicaho

Note that you need to have SiteAdvisor installed from http://www.siteadvisor.com/ for the extension to work.

Okay, I'll try reinstalling.

To make sure that I get a complete removal, is it worth using the MCPR:  http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331 ?

All I can say is that it comes from the Chrome Web Store, the same place that all other Chrome extensions come from.  I assume that Google have some controls over what they host and that this provides some guarantee of safety.

If you want to perform some scans in addition to the virus scanning done by the security software that you have in place, open the page in a non-Chrome browser, right click the <Install> button and choose the save file option.  You can then scan the file with additional software.

I tested the SiteAdvisor extension in total virus site, 100% safe:

But I'll wait out the extension on the official site for testing.

Re: "McChHost.exe" process under cmd.exe?

I uninstalled SiteAdvisor using the option in the McAfee entry in Add/Remove Programs, and then downloaded it using Firefox and re-installed.

SiteAdvisor installed itself immediately into Internet Explorer, and (after a short delay) into Firefox. I can it in both those browsers, and it works there.

In Chrome I had to shot down and re-start the browser and was prompted to allow SiteAdvisor as a third-party extension. I did so and I can see SiteAdvisor in the extension list, as before; I can see the McChhost process running under cmd.exe; the SiteAdvisor extension can be seen in the list of processes shown in About:Memory; but - once again - there is no icon in the Chrome address bar.

So what governs the appearance or non-appearance of the icon?

Re: "McChHost.exe" process under cmd.exe?

Hi Hayton!

What is the version of SiteAdvisor in the Chrome Extensions tab?  I've got 2.6.5.1091:

McAfee SiteAdvisor - 2014_0207a - Chrome version.JPG

and everything seems to be working okay.

You can force an extension update by checking the Developer mode option on the Extensions tab and then clicking the <Update extensions now> button.

Re: "McChHost.exe" process under cmd.exe?

I have the same version, it auto-installed so it's unlikely to update.

Edit - I opened Chrome Developer Tools to look at the network traffic and for SiteAdvisor it seems to be returning a 304 "Not Modified". Also for something from Jive. I'll pursue this a bit later but if the server isn't sending something because it should already be cached - and it's not being picked up from the cache - then that mighr be a possible reason for the icon not appearing.
