SiteAdvisor False Positive

Jump to solution

Hello.

I am an engineer of Ecwid. Ecwid is a platform, that provides an easy way to create a store for everyone. Recently we have found that McAfee SiteAdvisor is blocking access to the instructions on how to configure the store to get payments through PayPal: http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/15853304/PayPal#PayPalStandard .

We reproduce the issue at http://www.trustedsource.org/en/feedback/url for he following solutions:

- McAfee Web Gateway 7

- SaaS Web Protection

- SiteAdviser

It is the obvious false positive warning, because the page do not collect any credentials and contain only the text instructions. But the page contains a lot of information about PayPal and PayPal's backend. It is an article in our Knowledge Base.

We wish to fix the issue as soon as possibly because the alert may scary the store owners who need to use PayPal to get the payments.

Thank you.

An interesting one. I followed the link and indeed got a SiteAdvisor Red blocking page, which warns of a possible phishing site. But SiteAdvisor itself rates the site as Safe, and the McAfee SA icon remains green.

The problem must be with Trustedsource, but entering the URL into the search box on the Trustedsource site brings up that page with a Green rating also.

It could be that there is a feed into TrustedSource which has suddenly flagged your site for phishing, but the main database hasn't yet registered the change. Alternatively, this could be a glitch in the system. I just tried the link again and it went straight to the site, with no blocking page.

If you still have the problem tomorrow, notify TrustedSource - you have the contact information?

Hi, Hayton.

Thank you for the reply.

When creating this thread we reported the issue to sites@mcafee.com . They answered that they have already addressed it. Possibly the database, you are using, is fresh enough. That is why the SiteAdvisor already rates the site as Safe, and the McAfee SA icon remains green.

Thank you for your help.
