Site Advisor 'Hang'

On my old PC, upon installing Site Advisor, it caused XP Pro w/ IE7 to run incredably slow.
I had been having problems with my old PC anyway, so I uninstalled it and IE7 browsed normal again.
I purchased a new Duo Quad machine, with XP Pro, 1 T byte SATA drive, 16 Gig Ram, Dual Video Cards, IE7, Service Pack 3 and the latest updates from MS all done. This machine "Rocks". On Mar 21 2009, I decided to try Site Advisor on this new machine. Upon installation, the large 'pop-up' stating it is installing never went away. After several minutes, I clicked the Icon to start IE to see if it would open. The Icon appeared to be depressed, as in a button, but did not return to normal... oh... not good. At that point, I waited as the movement of the 'installing' bar continued. After another minute, I took a look at my hard drive working LED and it showed no activity... hmmmm, not good. I now have this not so 'warm and fuzzy' feeling as this machine does most all simple tasks instantly. Okay, I do a Control-Alt-Delete to look at the four processors, and nothing! It is hung. Argggg! I wait for a bit longer, move the mouse around in circles to pass the time, get a cup of coffee... still hung. I had to do a hard boot to get out of this. So, I am back, open my IE browser, come here, 'sign up' and read the posts. Anyone else having these problems?

RE: Site Advisor 'Hang'

That's difficult to answer without knowing what other protection products you are using, if any.

When you installed SiteAdvisor did you enable smart recommendations/protected mode by any chance? Also did you let it load the Yahoo toolbar?

Two things to try, go to IE7 Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click "Reset". Apply and OK it.
Close IE7 and re-open it.
Go to Tools/Manage Add-ons
Re-enable them one by one starting with SiteAdvisor. There should be 2 or 3 entries for that.
Followed by all the others in turn.

See if the hang problem returns.

Secondly try uninstalling SiteAdvisor via the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. If it isn't listed then uninstall McAfee Security Center, but first enable Windows Firewall as protection temporarily.

Then run the MCPR removal tool in my signature.

Reboot and reinstall whatever McAfee components you had.
