SQLite Temporary Files

I am starting a new thread on this to hopefully focus attention on this very annoying problem.

I now have exactly 1,209 of these "sqlite_xxxx" files in my %windir%\temp folder, dating back to Sep 9, 2008. Three are added on every boot, so this represents 403 boots since that date.

Contrary to what is claimed in many threads on this subject, SA is certainly NOT cleaning up these files.

Please understand, I am not suggesting that there never be any temporary files. The problem is that files that are apparently no longer being used are not being deleted.

Here are three recent threads on this forum on this subject:

In the second of those threads, Peter mentioned that he would bring it up at "our next conference call with McAfee on Monday". That was Jan 30, 2009, and I can't find any report of what the outcome was.

In the last of those threads, member "CWH803" states "This defect began with version of McSACore.exe". I cannot vouch for the accuracy of that, but if true, then certainly this can be fixed.

YoKenny has resorted to using CCleaner's automatic cleanup mechanism, but this should not be necessary.

This same subject has been brought up in older threads on other McAfee products (much of it inaccurate and out of date). Here are four:

In the first of those older threads, Development Manager David Juche commented that these "should clean up when not needed", and that it would be a "good idea" for SA to change these names. That was Aug 8, 2006.

So at this point, I would like to simply ask, is there any chance we can get this fixed sometime soon?

"SiteAdvisor abandons temporary files" defect

I would second JohnG's request for a rapid solution to the "SiteAdvisor abandons temporary files" defect.

I'd say that allowing this known fundamental misuse of disk space defect and allowing that defect to remain across multiple versions, calls into question McAfee’s software development qualifications.

RE: "SiteAdvisor abandons temporary files" defect

We were told that "a future revision" would take care of that. Now whether they meant an update to the current product or next year's product is unknown. But they are still appearing in my Windows 7 RC installation which is using a beta of this years applications, but a future update thereof.

2010's version are about to be released to public beta testing, I guess we'll find out then.

Sorry guys, I wish I had better news.

I'll bring it up again on our Monday call. I do know, however, that SiteAdvisor uses them for reference. They are only 1 to 2 kb in size so really shouldn't be a worry.

On Conference call right now and have been told this is fixed in SA version 3.0 which will be released soon.

Thanks Peter for the info, and all your efforts on the forums.

Much appreciated!

Looking forward to v3.
