RunDLL "There was a problem starting x64\saPlugin.dll"

Jump to solution

Every time I open a new tab in Internet Explorer, this message appears:

fafsdas.PNG

I am running the latest version of Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 64-bit. I am running Internet Explorer in Enhanced Protected Mode, with 64-bit processes enabled.

I have also checked and the "saPlugin.dll" file is present in "C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\SiteAdvisor\x64".

I have already tried reinstalling the Mcafee Webadvisor component of my Mcafee SecurityCenter.

Is this a known bug with Windows 10 or Enhanced Protected Mode? Is there a fix?

Run MCPR cleanup, reboot and then reinstall all from your online account.

The old SiteAdvisor is not compatible with Windows 10.  I suggest uninstalling it via Control Panel > Programs and features.

Reboot.

If you have other McAfee software installed go into McAfee SecurityCenter > Navigation > Features and install Web Protection.

That should pull in WebAdvisor.

Alternatively use IE11 (or Firefox but NOT Chrome) in Win 10 to navigate to McAfee SiteAdvisor Software – Website Safety Ratings and Secure Search and hopefully it will detect Win 10 and install WebAdvisor immediately.

If not it will install SiteAdvisor but you would have to restart immediately and it will then upgrade to WebAdvisor.

Btw WA is not compatible with Edge and wont be until Microsoft relax their restrictions on add-ons.

Ok, I will give it a shot, however in "Programs and Features" it is already shown as Webadvisor.

Perhaps IE is detecting some leftover files from an outdated version of SiteAdvisor in addition to Webadvisor?

That's odd, are you running any other McAfee software?

Thanks, doing a full uninstall with the MCPR tool, rebooting, and reinstalling seems to have fixed it!
