MozBackup marked as dangerous download

I went to download mozbackup from jasnapaka.com and Site Advisor said 'Dangerous Site' so I blocked the down load.

But on the Google search page it has a green tick and also Wot says the site is good. not sure now if it's safe to download.

It doesn't do that for me but I don't use Protected Mode, are you?

Re: MozBackup marked as dangerous download

Just checked and there is no tick in the box next to Protected Mode.

Also I received an email from Spc3rd (whoever that is) saying the site is green ticked. Well it's green ticked in Google for me too it's only when I click on download that the warning comes up.

I have also clicked download anyway, as I've downloaded this before on a different computer, but then another warning comes up saying the site has viruses etc! that's when I clicked stop download in that warning box

spc3rd is a specialist in this field and I'm surprised he wouldn't post here.    I just downloaded it and got no warnings whatsoever.   Maybe your browser cache needs to be emptied?

Re: MozBackup marked as dangerous download

I downloaded the ZIP file from here:  http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/download.php but the installer version also comes in without any warnings.    I think there's another factor involved here, but what?

Re: MozBackup marked as dangerous download

Hi Peter,

My apologies for the delayed response.  (I deleted my two prior posts in order to try some more testing out).

As you've already mentioned, no red SA warning message appears when downloading the "Zip version (no install)".  However, I am still getting the red SA warning when attempting to download the "Install Program" version (as shown in the screenshot).  I agree with you that there must be something else going on that I'm not seeing.

Re: MozBackup marked as dangerous download

I'm not getting it in Firefox even with that file....all green.  Maybe try another browser and make sure Protected Mode is not on?   (That clashes with SA)

Re: MozBackup marked as dangerous download

Many thanks guys for looking into this. I'm a little confused about the Protected Mode issue, ex_Brit you say "Protected Mode is not on?   (That clashes with SA)" I thought Protected Mode was part and parcel of Site advisor, how can it clash with it's self? that's where I checked to see it wasn't selected, is there somewhere else say in firefox (the browser I use) that this mode is active?

Re: MozBackup marked as dangerous download

If I am not terribly mistaken, I think Ex Brit was referring to your Security "Settings" with-in the Internet Zones. McAfee has built-in protection for Internet Explorer as it is.  Even if Internet Explorer is not your "Default" Browser of choice. It is imperative that you keep it up to date, as with all Windows updates.

Because McAfee utilizes it for it,s interface, etc.  I just the other day inquired about having "Protected Mode" (On) in both Internet Explorer 10,and Site Advisor Live as well. To prevent any conflicts, I left "Protected Mode" on in Site Advisor Live, and only have it enabled for "Restricted Sites" in Internet Explorer, which is the "Default Setting"

You can check Internet Explorer 10 by"

1-Opening Internet Explore

2-Up in the top Righthand corner of the window, left click on the tiny (white) cogwheel

3- Left click on Internet Options

4- Left click on Security( Upper top left)

5- You will see Internet, Local Intranet,Trusted Sites, Restricted Sites

6- You can then "Uncheck Enable Protected Mode" for all but the Restricted Zone.

7- Of course click "Apply", then okay and close Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

Having said this...It seems that in a prior Version of Firefox, Having Protected Mode turned on in Site Advisor Live, caused issues. As I do not use Firefox-Version 24...Iam uncertain if this is still the case?

So before making changes to your Internet Explorer Settings, make certain this is not the case.

I am certain that a Moderator will further expand on this....I,m simply saying that all is working fine in my regards.

I hope this helps to make you better understand the "Protected Mode" being off...comment.

Regards,

Re: MozBackup marked as dangerous download

Sorry, yes I meant browsers' protection settings.  It varies from browser to browser but for SA toi work properly it's best to have the browser itself set to default.
