(McAfee AntiVirus Plus is installed on my XP sp3 machine, fully updated by MS website)
Changed HD & in that process reloaded AntiVirus Plus from McAfee web site --- and found this:
1. McAfee Virtual Technician reports "9 file(s) incorrect" in SiteAdvisor Product (& can't fix it).
2. removed SiteAdvisor with Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs"
3. rebooted & checked ie8 add-ons in to be sure it (SiteAdvisor) was removed.
4. On Navigation Center selected Features and checked the SiteAdvisor box & went thru the install.
5. Rebooted & checked the SiteAdvisor add-on in ie8 confirm that it was installed and functioning.
6. Ran McAfee Virtual Technician & it reported no problems.
7. Selected Check for updates and let the McAfee product update.
8. rebooted
9. Ran McAfee Virtual Technician & it reported "9 file(s) incorrect" in SiteAdvisor Product (& can't fix it).
Any thoughts on what is going wrong. Server script problem or mine?

Hi,
How about reinstalling Site advisor from www.siteadvisor.com site to check the issue. Can you try this and update it here. Thanks,
It sounds like a corrupted installation but you've already done the delete/re-install so there may be something else behind this.
If you saved the MVT error log could you look in it and cut-and-paste the section listing the affected files?
Hi,
How about reinstalling Site advisor from www.siteadvisor.com site to check the issue. Can you try this and update it here. Thanks,
Haydon & karthiks, Thank you both for replying.
I wanted to verify that the initial results I posted were repeatable so I did the following:
1.1 Cleared McAfee logs, windows temp folder
1.2 removed SiteAdvisor with Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs"
1.3 rebooted & checked ie8 add-ons in to be sure it (SiteAdvisor) was removed.
1.4 Ran MVT - McAfee Virtual Technician reports no problems found.
2. On Navigation Center selected Features and checked the SiteAdvisor box & went thru the install.
3. Did not reboot (install did not require this)
4. Checked the status of SiteAdvisor add-on in ie8 (manage add-ons): shows both toolbar and BHO as Enabled.
5. Confirmed SiteAdvisor tool bar is on screen & ratings are shown on Google search results.
6. Ran McAfee Virtual Technician again & this time it reported that:
"Product Name : SiteAdvisor
Product Version : 3.5.229
Language : en-us
Partner : McAfee
Health Check Details
Registry OK
File 9 file(s) incorrect
Expected File not Present

7. Again confirmed SiteAdvisor tool bar is on screen & ratings are shown on Google search results.
8. On Navigation Center selected Check for updates and let the McAfee product update.
9. Again confirmed SiteAdvisor tool bar is on screen & ratings are shown on Google search results.
10. Ran McAfee Virtual Technician again & this time it once again reported the same files were missing.
11. Right clicked on McAfee icon in the System tray & selected "check for updates" - the response was: they are up to date.
The above activity generated 66 log files (2.5 MB) in the McAfee folder. Most of the samples I looked at are riddled with error messages like these:

By chance I noticed that I can no longer right click on a single file or folder to have it scanned without the program initiating a whole drive scan.
Bottom line is that the situation is unchanged. The reinstall of this program on the new hard drive is a disaster. Yes XP is an older OS but this kind of issue (or issues) do not belong with a mature product. I have putting so much time on this I haven't had a chance to try a download from www.siteadvisor.com . However I am still open to more suggestions based on the data provided above.
Regards, Bev
i'd better leave this to Karthiks to have have a look at. The sequence of events you just reported isn't quite the same as in your original post, and it's not clear how SiteAdvisor is affected by those missing files. It's possible that if there are two versions of SiteAdvisor available on different servers then one of them should be pulled and replaced. Certainly the last time I re-installed SiteAdvisor I didn't get the latest version, but the next McAfee update supplied it and when I ran MVT it showed no errors.
Hi nybev,
Thanks for posting the logs for reference, but the reason I told to reinstall the Site Advisor from www.siteadvisor.com is because, earlier we had seen some problems with Site Advisor which is being installed from Available features where some times we won’t get the updated version. Recently McAfee has released Site advisor 3.6 so I want to check whether you will get the new version of Site advisor when you download from siteadvisor.com. Please do reinstall from siteadvisor.com and update me the version of Site Advisor. Thanks,
Karthik,
Today I had some time to do a reinstall from SiteAdvisor.com as recommended by Karthik on 19 & 22 Oct. After the
Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" uninstall and the new reinstall was completed I ran MVT. It
reported the same revision number (3.5.229) of SiteAdvisor that I had previously installed from
the McAfee website. This time however, there were no errors reported by MVT. A quick check of the
MVT logs showed that the files that had been previously reported as "Expected File not Present"
were now found.
I did one update sequence followed by another run of MVT and no errors were reported.
Note the revision number is not showing as 3.6 at this time.
I am moving along to other software that needs to be loaded on my SSD but without Karthik's most helpful
suggestion I would have trashed the McAfee software and put another vendor's av on this machine.
I am going to tic the correct answer, but someone in McAfee needs a ticket to find the root cause for this.
BTW I still can't right click on a single file or folder to have it scanned without the program
initiating a whole drive scan – normal, or is something else messed up? Any suggestions?
Regards & thanks, Bev
Hi nybev,
Issue with the scan occurs only in the 11.0 version and it has a fix in the 11.6 version of McAfee, from this I can say that you still have McAfee 11.0 version which might be also a reason for the Site Advisor 3.5 instead of 3.6. To be more precise I want to know the version details of your McAfee and also want to know when did you installed the McAfee last time. Please give me these information I can help you with the scan issue as well. Thanks,
Karthik,
Thanks for helping once again.
Here are the details as produced today by MVT:
Product Name : VirusScan - McAfee AntiVirus Plus
Product Version : 15.0.302
Product Name : SecurityCenter
Product Version : 11.0.678
Product Name : SiteAdvisor
Product Version : 3.5.229
Product Name : Personal Firewall - McAfee AntiVirus Plus
Product Version : 12.0.360
First loading of the software on my new drive came from my McAfee account page & occured on approximately 6 Oct 2012 (according to the McAfee folder (MSC) creation date located in my oldest drive backup.) My current folder date is 23 Oct 2012.
I would have expected that my recent update check should have installed 11.6. Perhaps the 11.6 a very recent release?

Thanks for giving me the information, as I said earlier the scan issue is having the fix in the McAfee security center 11.6 version since it is a new release. You can also check this Thread Here for the scan issue. But I can recommend you to try reinstalling the McAfee again by following the below steps and we can check what will be the version of McAfee. Also if you don’t want to reinstall the McAfee and you want to wait for the version to be upgraded automatically, no problem you can wait and check with the version.
Follow the below steps to reinstall the McAfee
