I noly signed on to highlight things like this....
If anyone upstairs is watching...
Recently while in Audiogon a pop up message from "McAfee" appeared at the top of my screen as an overlaid banner.
It contained the official McAfee logo and featured the message : "Pssst....your Internet Firewall is OFF and you are at risk."
Underneath there were 2 buttons, "FIX NOW" and "CANCEL".
Instead of pandering to it, shutting the internet explorer down then opening McAfee reveals this "warning" to be untrue.
It seemed to me that McAfee would have too much dignity to use the word "Pssst", despite the "official" looking nature of the banner, so this looked deeply suspicious.
Questions :
Is it indeed bogus?
Should users be warned?
Should you take action to find out who's doing this?
Should anyone who has activated it be informed as to what remedial action should be taken, if any?
Kind regards,

No it's genuine. I got the same this morning. Is your software otherwise OK?
I'm not sure but I think a new version of the software installed at some stage last night and it acts a bit differently.

That was quick!
Many thanks. Much appreciated!
Mine is still on v4.0.0.354, even after restart. As for the 'Wording' in the Banners, I thought they were working on those? In regards to be perceived as more Professional...
It's the new WebAdvisor - we are trying to get them to improve it.
That,s what I was talking about..
Yes well I got the same asinine warning this morning and noticed that something had switched on my Scheduled Scan which was in progress.
As I like to be in control I stopped it.
I've added a question to our Conference Call agenda for next Monday afternoon.
Yes, I noticed that. A valid reason to do so...Especially with your 'Scheduled Scan' being turned on,without asking.
BTW...May I ask what Version of Web Advisor it is?
Moved to WebAdvisor.
My version is 4.0.0.354
Weird? Same as mine, I was updated to it a couple of weeks ago. So far as of yet, nothing untoward has occurred.
