This just started yesterday with an automatic update that required a reboot. The update installed an icon on my desktop, I deleted the icon. Several minutes later it was back. I deleted it again and it came back again.
I've been through that scenario several times. I DO NOT want unneeded icons on my desktop and I certainly don't need the McAfee desktop icon because it has another one in the notification area.
How do I get rid of the McAfee desktop icon PERMANENTLY.
Thanks.

This is a known bug and a fix is forthcoming. This was posted from McAfee to explain to customers about it
There is an idea that you can post up in the ideas forum re desktop icons
Hi,
Please use this link for your reference :- http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS100906
Tried that that was for the old issue I hear this does not work now. been several posts saying that.
Thanks for the quick response.
I read some of the posts in the thread you referred me to. It's amazing how angry people can become over a minor annoyance.
The Win7 Start menu is truly awful compared to the one in XP, in my opinion, so I have 5 folders on my desktop, each containing categorized shortcuts to commonly used programs. So now I have a lone icon. I'm a desktop neat-freak, but I can live with it until it's fixed -- and I won't lose a minute's sleep over it.
Thanks again.

The moderater writes a final post to this locked thread stating the fix works-

Still can't get rid of Desktop icon even after installing alleged fix/patch from Aussie site.
Now running security center ver. 11.0.654 and can't keep the icon from reappearing regardless of what I try.
Here is the new thread I started
