windows security alert

I think I've tried all the posted answers, but the Windows Security Alert virus/icon will not go away.

This all started with the Windows XP Virus alert.  This seems to be cleaned now, but the Windows Security Alert Icon will not go away from the status bar.  What I've done: scanned with the latest engines from SuperAntiSpyware and MalwarebytesAntiMalware and McAfee.  I've rebooted after each scan, as instructed.

I've rescanned many times and each time one of these (random) cleaners will find a new cookie or registry key to clean.

My system specifics:

mcaffee engine 5400.1158, DAT 6319.0000

windows xp sp3 home edition

Thanks
