Mcafee came installed on my new computer and I uninstalled it using the control panel. But now the Onaccess scanner is still running and sucks up all my CPU time. I can't watch videos or do anything that needs much CPU time. How do I get rid of this program? The file name is mcshield.exe. I can find the directory but can't delete it.

run the MCPR removal tool reboot and everything should be gone
Will that have removed everything Mcafee from my computers? This has been a very bad experience and I don't want anything lingering behind. I tried installing the McAfee Virtual Technician which didn't work. Is that also gone now or must I remove that separately? If so, how do I remove that? Anything else I need to know?
Remove MVT via control panel Programs and features and MCPR will remove Mcafee. I run it two times does not hurt.
Hi gnuarm,
As suggested by Peacekeeper, please run MCPR tool. You can download it from following location : http://mcaf.ee/mcpr
However, I suggest you to install back McAfee on your system so that the computer is secured.
Nealy all the post here say the same thing I am experiencing. But I hear no solution to the poblem. I read dozens of posts on Google that say the same thing. Still no solution.
I have spent good money on McAfee protection. I am not likely to spend anymore until someone shows me the fix.
Pumkin I assume you have mcshield using 100% cpu resources issue is this correct? I have not had this ever. Only timee you will see this are as follows
1. Single core cpu ie p4 no hyperthreading
2. Corrupted install
3. as per 2 but caused by installing Mcafee over an incompletely removed alternative AV program
Have you called support they are the ones that need to check your PC out as to a cause. the normal fix is an uninstall reinstall as per
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331
reboot and run
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe
and reinstall from your account
This assumes your cpu ok and ram enough.
TaskMgr. Processes show my SlownessProblem:
Mcshield is running constant at 99%
Suggestions?
