will have to contact support when I amnot so busy. they take a long time to figure out there is a real bug (when I already know there is one) - and right now I am really busy. sometimes days or a week. good thing I got unlimited minutes recently.
OK, good luck 😉
I hope I'm not too late.
I just wanted to let you know that I have the same problem with my PC.
Whenever I change the "device type" to printer, it doesn't save it, only the changed name is saved.
The real strange thing is that on my laptop, it keeps the name and it changed to the printer icon.
PC = Win7 ultimate and McAfee AntiVirus Plus with cable,
laptop = Win7 ultimate and McAfee AntiVirus Plus wireless,
Printer Kodak ESP Ofifce 2170

Thanks for the quick reply,
but I think the problem is solved. I realized another problem (firewall setting / on-off disabled/reverting back to on) and therefore I re-installed the program, just done with it.
....and after that I was able to change the name/type and it kept it stored.
Glad that's solved it. Thanks for posting back.
"firewall setting / on-off disabled/reverting back to on" in english? reinstalling did not fix anything for me. reinstalled about 20 times with tech support escalated. in the end, they could not solve.
does this mean it has everything to do with having a laptop as opposed to a desktop? or wired as opposed to wireless? which?
or do I have to disable the firewall to make mcafee work?
Tech Support can answer you better than we can.
maybe I could rephrase. I would love to know a little better the details the reason for this bug - and its workaround or fix.
I failed with my escalation, they cut me off (I guess either support or engineering gave up when they could not solve the problem).
if the person who found the solution were to escalate and perservere, they might be able to get this bug fixed.
possibly one of the reasons why they cut me off was I kept finding more bugs for them to solve (that's what I do - find bugs and report them).
[btw, ex-brit, I agree with your signature - reg cleaners are like a bull in a china closet - I used to write activeX controls, and I have watched some of the "best" registry cleaners try to tear into areas they had no business messing with. when someone says "oh, just use ccleaner", it's one of my big red flags]
if I can't get the bug fixed, maybe someone else can who actually had the answer - that would be so nice. the fewer bugs, the better.
@ Jim Michaels.
Sorry to hear that you still have trouble with your system(s).
All I can say re-installing it solved my problem. I don't know if you use McAfee's de-installer "MCPR.exe" or Windows "add/remove program".
I always use MCPR.exe, otherwise I run into problems when re-installing it.
Just to clarify. My laptop, Dell with win7 ultimate didn't have the problem. It happened on my PC, also Dell with win7 ultimate.
Since you mentioned a registry cleaner this rings a bell. I used one one or two days ago. Maybe that caused my problem, although (I thought) it didn't find a major problem.
What did you mean by "in english?" after my "firewall setting / on-off disabled/reverting back to on".
What I tried to say was that I discovered a problem when I went into settings under firewall. It showed OFF. I clicked ON, it changed for a second or two but I wasn't able to get to
the other firewall settings. this screen was blank and when I went back one step the firewall was off again, although I didn't get any warning that the firewall is off.
After re-install I was able to change the Kodak printer's icon and I was able to save. It changed and stayed.
Good luck
