since this morning I am unable to download any .pdfs from my bank or my accountants website.
every file says, "virus scan failed"
I need to download files to run my business so this is critical.
I have just had a windows update which has installed/updated Edge.

1. Uninstall McAfee Webadvisor from programs and features.
2. Delete the McAfee Web Advisor folder from the following locations:
C:\Program Files\McAfee
C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee
C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\McAfee
C:\ProgramData\McAfee
3. Reboot the PC

Thanks for the guidance. It has worked and I can now download files.
I think your advice should make it clear that the webadvisor to be removed could be in any or all of the locations specified
It could cause confusion if people are expecting it to be in every location..

I didn"t know if the download failures (any and all files since last week) were from windows, chrome, or Mcafee and wasted alot of time changing their settings and searching the web for help.
Finally, I had uninstalled Mcafee because I knew the my program was 6 years old (with bad screen displays), but the new Mcafee download still 'virus scan failed'. The instructions above to hand finish the uninstall by deleting stray files was the key.
