Re: Wouldn't scan, so uninstalled this to reinstall and now it will not reinstall

Did you completely uninstall the old software and then run MCPR cleanup (see Useful Links at the top of this page), reboot and try?

Also is your system, whatever it is, totally up to date including the latest version of IE, whether or not you use it?

It is Internet Explorer 10. Although I set up Firefox as my default browser.

I also want to add that laptop is brand new. No other software has been installed on it yet. Besides it came with McAfee trial version. When I downloaded McAfee from the Internet it uninstalled trial version and began installing ordinary one. And then the error was produced.

Windows is up to date.

Ah I will have a guess here. You need to uninstall the trieal before installing the new version. So follow

http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331

Uninstall Mcafee via windows control panel then run MCPR and reboot.

Run mcpreinsstall here

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe

and reinstall from your account

As McAfee uses IE10 behind the scenes it might help to set IE10 to use Compatibility View for all websites under Tools > Compatibility View Settings.

Hi,

I tried both:

I ran McAfee preinstall and it went smoothly and trouble-free.

I set up IE10 as Peter suggested choosing Compatibility Settings.

Unfortunately I still have the same error.

Peter, and I no longer have any McAfee residual software on my laptop as McAfee uninstalled all of it.

I'm out of ideas except to ask if Win 8 is the final version and totally up to date?   Tony/Karthiks wont be around for another 12 hours or so.   You may be best advised contacting Technical Support  directly.  It's free and available by phone or online chat and linked under Useful Linkis at the top of this page.

Re: Wouldn't scan, so uninstalled this to reinstall and now it will not reinstall

I dug a little in the system and discovered that there is some McAfee leftover. It's called McAfee Validation Trust Protection Service. It can be found in Control Panel/Administration tools/System Configuaration and then in Services tab.

However I have no idea how to get rid of it.
