VirusScan freezes

Every time I try to run  a VirusScan, my computer freezes. It is always at the same point and with the same file. I have tried running it in safe mode, and the exact same thing happens every single time. I have also tried Stinger, but it also froze. I do believe I have some type of virus because my email was hijacked. Also someone else who used my computer had their email hijacked as well. The file that it always freezes on is [C:\Windows\system32\connect.dll]. I really want to fix this problem immediately so I do not have my email hijacked again. Is there another solution so I can run an entire scan?

Re: VirusScan freezes

Since you have tried the stinger scan, I will assume you found out it was available in the document       Did you have any success with any of the other suggestions?

If you cannot get anything to work here, get a usb stick and download this free program from a non infected pc and rename the download and installation files to something you can easily remember as virus and malware are written to self protect themselves http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and install it on your infected pc. When you get it installed check for the latest updates and run the program and let it clean everything it finds and reboot the computer. Do the same for this free program as well www.superantispyware.com

Re: VirusScan freezes

I just tried this on Friday, and it actually started to work.  We found about 6 infected files then it froze on a different corrupted file. Any new suggestions?

Please let us know what version of Windows you are running in your computer?

Re: VirusScan freezes

Looks like C:\Windows\system32\connect.dll is a Internet Connectivity related file, so I would recommend you to check with your ISP to make sure whether this file can be deleted from the computer. If ok then remove the file and retry the scanning
