Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

So it's only happening on one system?   If so then this may or may not produce an answer as it would seem to be intermittent at best.

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

Just another update, I tested this problem on all of my machines. My XP Home SP3 running McAfee Internet Security still has the problem. Checking the details of a right-click scan shows the Feb 24th Engine, which is Engine 1446. On my 2 Vista Home 64bit and Windows 7 Home 64bit, the scan reports show today's Engine (1458) and an Engine creation date of 3/8/13.

When I check the About for each machine, the Virus Scan all shows the same build, version, Engine and Engine creation date. The same goes for the other components in McAfee Internet Security. But it still seems only my XP machine is displaying this behavior and the MVT doesnt detect any problems.

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

I did mention this on our call and got a very vague answer I'm afraid.  The gist of it was to contact Technical Support if it's bothering you.  They hadn't heard of similar reports.

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

So should I just uninstall the software and reinstall it?

I am assuming I have to uninstall it using the control panel.  Restart the computer.

Run MCPR, restart the computer.

Download McAfee and install it.

Is this correct for removing everything and reinstalling a fresh installation?

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

That's correct.  You'll be asked to reboot after running MCPR, that's normal.

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

So I did just that.  I uninstalled McAfee through the control panel.  Restarted my computer and ran MCPR.  After that was done I restarted and reinstalled McAfee.  The same problem is still happening even though the Engine Version is shown as up to date in the About Tab as well as with MVT.

I uninstalled McAfee again yesterday and redid everything and the problem is there.  It doesn't make any sense if I used the tools and the steps needed to completely uninstall and reinstall the software.  My Internet Explorer settings have been left as default forever since I don't use Internet Explorer.

Please open a case with Technical Support as we've run out of ideas here.  Sorry.

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

Hi theflyingmonkey,

Similar issue's haven't document yet as far i believe. Well , the installation and reinstallation process which you are doing is quit good. But , i have a suggestion here ;

Please uninstall the McAfee from control panel - Restart the computer - Run MCPR - Restart the computer. Now the important part.

Please reinstall McAfee from au.mcafee.com ( Never matter's the country you are from ) . What's your suggestion Ex_Brit ? . I believe it's happening because updated McAfee from direct server is not installing ! .

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

What is the difference from downloading or going to au.mcafee.com instead of going to mcafee.com and then selecting My Account to login and download the installer?

Will downloading the installer from au.mcafee.com be any different from the one I have? Are there differences based on country like the au version is better against certain things?

Re: Virus Scan using older DAT version to scan

Australia gets the latest releases before other nations.   Not sure why, but that's the way it goes.
