Virus Map reporting module

For some time I have had the following message on my desktop screen:

'McAfee Virus Map Reporting Module stopped working and was closed'

I cancel the box by right click and close. However keeps returning after 1 hour. McAfee Security Centre up to date and full scan finds no problems.

Anyone had the same issue? I doesn't seem to cause any problem just annoying.

RE: Virus Map reporting module

I am also getting these messages. I'm using Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1525.

In the last few days, when I have closed the error message, Windows suggests I run the McAfee AntiSpam update which provides a solution to the problem. The thing is, I chose not to install the anti spam stuff because of difficulties I've had with it in the past, and so can't install updates for it!

I am willing to experiment if I can find the time, but if there was an update coming soon that would solve the problem (without having SpamKiller installed) I would rather wait.

Thanks for any advice,

Stuart

Virus Map Reporting Module

I've got McAfee Anti-virus loaded and up to date. Doesn't do any good. Message still pops up regularly.

McUtil update for Virus Map Issue

Follow these directions to install the patched dll for VirusMapper issue.
Note: This dll is slated for release with our next version

Instructions:

Extract the contents of zip file to %programfiles%\Common Files\McAfee\MSC\

Run copymcutil.bat
Note: If you are using vista >right click copydriver.bat and select Run-As Administrator

Actions of bat file
- check if files are present
- rename current dll from .dll to .old
- rename new dll from .dl_ to .dll
- register new dll

Reboot

RE: Virus Map Reporting Module

I have pasted it to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\MSC

I then did the right click to "Run as Administrator" but the window that opens says the following...

Are you sure you extracted the files to C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\MSC
\ ?
The current directory is C:\Windows\system32
Close this window, extract or copy the files to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Mc
Afee\MSC\ and try again.
Press any key to continue . . .

I then just double clicked on the copymcutil and got a message to say "DllUnregisterServer in McUtil.dll succeeded"

I will reboot and post again with the results.

RE: Virus Map Reporting Module

Before I got to the reboot, I clicked on OK to close the window saying it had been successful, and another window opened to say...

The module "McUtil.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005.

For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term.
