Thunderbird 24.0.1 has become very slow to delete emails within the past week of October 13 taking about 30 seconds to complete the action for each delete.
When I disable Scan Email attachments everything runs as normal.
How do I correct this problem?
I've compacted folders and recreated Thunderbird db indexes.

Hmm I am still on 17.0.6 will update to 24 and monitor over next day of three. Try going into Mcafee real time scanning and unselect scan email attachments . Does that help mif so I need to pass this onto Mcafee.
Agreed mine now takes 3 secs to delete an email unselecting email scanning speeds it up. I have reorted it for our monday mod call. Can you confirm the email setting helps and if it does call support and log a support call.
Thank you Tony.
The email settings are as in my original post.
To clarify, with email attachment realtime scanning enabled it takes 22 seconds to delete a message from the inbox. With realtime email attachment scanning turned off it is virtually instantaneous.
This is repeatable.
I have compacted all email folders and re-indexed the email db by deleting the file from my email profile.
I have 1,033 messages in my inbox and 25,300 messages in my trash folder. I have 8 subfolders from the Inbox.
Let me know if more information would be helpful.

What it means is support needs to know of issue tell them about it and that it happened in v17 as well till Mcafee fixed it. Do not allow them to uninstall etc the issue is repeatable maybe mine faster as I recently cleared 18mths of emails out of each folder.
I cannot report it as I run the 12.9 beta. I have added this to our Monday moderator phone in but would appreciate it if you report it officially and post your job number here.
Sorry missed your email scanning off initial comment. This is the same issue we had in 14/17 versions. In fact 17 was really bad as it was giving not responding messages etc that made things unusable.
on 18/10/13 6:51:21 EDT AMHi deepskydan,
Please clarify the below
Whether your Email provider allows both IMAP and POP3 configurations - If so please re-configure alternatively and check
Whether more than 4 Email accounts are configured in Thunderbird ?
Were you facing the issue in Thunderbird Version 20.0.0 ?
Please provide the version of Anti-Spam and its Build number so that I can verify if its the latest version..!
Regards
Selvan it is happening to me as well on beta 12.9.133 and Tb24. I was on TB17 and it was working fine with 2 accounts. It is not an isp issue this is the same issue though not as bad that all older versions of TB had with Mcafee . These were fixed.
My ISP is pop3 or IMAP Antispam is 13.8.706 though I feel it is not an AS issue.
Hi Tony,
I have passed on this to Mohan B from Tier 3 however he'll be able to figure out if logs have been sent for Analysis (Analyse whether AS or TB is causing slow down). Alerted one of the T2 tech in Sofia to collect logs. Beleive this was already included in our Monday call. Will have a discussion..!
Regards
Thanks The issue is far better than what was happening before though having to wait for email deletion is annoying it was far more annoying having the whole program not responding for many minutes. AS mine is a beta version best not confuse Mohan

I have 8 email accounts setup in Thunderbird 24.0.1. Six are POP and 2 are IMAP (aol). The POP accounts do not offer IMAP.
I do not have anti-spam activated, it is turned off.

This is the first time I have noticed a problem with any version of Thunderbird, deleting messages, and McAfee.
