Right Click Custom File Scan Failure

The right click custom file scan option is not scanning the selected file and issues an immediate response of 0 (zero) files checked and 0 (zero) issues found and worse produces an info tag on the notification area (windows 10) that persists indefinitely even after the info message has been read and dismissed... If there's a tech support out there please offer some feedback as to the resolution of the issue, which is of importance...

Re: Right Click Custom File Scan Failure

What is the file extension?

Can you take a pic of the notification box.

I will flag this when you answer for the program manager.

have you tried calling support and if initial support no assistance request an escalation call back.

What version of the program have you so i can test this if it is 16.0.1

Re: Right Click Custom File Scan Failure

Ok I tried a log file and it said what you posted scanned 0 found 0,., the popup closed when I clicked close

Ok scanned dll file and said Total 1 Files 1 no issues so seems it is like the full scan and ignoring files that cannot carry payloads. Just my feeling at this stage

I noticed still said 1 file when i scanned 7 dll files so asking the program Manager

Re: Right Click Custom File Scan Failure

Your guess may well be right... I get this issue with zip files, some of which normally register more than 1 file for a scan. The Livesafe version is the latest, build: 16.1.160, Engine version: 3049.0.

Last, yes the initial scan popup can be dismissed but as I said the McAfee icon in the (in my case) "drop-up"  system tray gets a persistent info tag which on a right click triggers a slide-out message  & a notification area message either of which when dismissed/cleared doesn't clear the tag, and hence neither the info message, which is most annoying but far worse is the fact that scan wasn't performed... In short this should be escalated... I assume you also observed this behavior. I can only hope these McAfee glitches do not create any worrisome system instabilities, the sooner it's fixed the better...

Re: Right Click Custom File Scan Failure

I checked again just now and the McAfee icon issue seems to have vanished, but when I scanned a folder full of zip files it scanned 0 found 0, so something is definitely awry...

Re: Right Click Custom File Scan Failure

OH what I found right click a folder and scan it shows all files in total that can be carriers of malware as files scanned. Highlight a group of files and it will only show 1 file scanned. that is a bug that is being fixed in the next version.

Re scanning zip files  asking but I assume my reason applies but here files are only scanned when zip extracted. the new engine is more an on access scanner that demand scanner. I have passed the question up the line.

Re popup sorry cannot picture what you see after you close the scan popup. I

Re: Right Click Custom File Scan Failure

No no, clicked done... As mentioned the icon issue seemed to have vanished, but quite some time later after the 0, 0 scan it popped up... If it thinks it can scan something, e.g. tried it on a folder of pdfs, gave the right number scanned & 0 issues, then the icon tag disappears, but I don't believe it actually scanned anything, seemed way too fast... Only hope "on access" i.e. Real-Time isn't glitching too, how would you tell?

Guess we'll see in August.
