Real-Time Scanning prevents creating shortcuts

On my Windows 7 (all the latest updates and patches installed) PC, when Real-Time Scanning is On I cannot create a shortcut either on my desktop or in any folder.

When trying to create a shortcut, I receive the following error message:

When Real-Time Scanning is Off I can create shortcuts as you expect. I tried disabling each of the Real-Time Scanning Settings and tried creating shortcuts; the result was, as long as Real-Time Scanning was On a shortcut could not be created regardless of Settings.

Below is my McAfee version information.

I appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.

Thank you,

Re: Real-Time Scanning prevents creating shortcuts

Hi tommyz3,

This is something that is reported new as of now, Could you please try to disable access protection in McAfee and let us know the status ???

  1. Double-click on the M Icon.
  2. Click Navigation in the top, right corner.
  3. Select General Settings and Alerts.
  4. Open the Access Protection drawer.
  5. Remove the check beside Use Access Protection.
  6. Click Apply

Try creating short cuts on your PC and let us know the status.

Additionally, please create a new user account profile in windows and let us know if you are able to create a short cut icon there ??

Re: Real-Time Scanning prevents creating shortcuts

I have the same problem as tommeyz3, and have tried the suggested solution of Dinz.

This solution does not help at all.

I did not have the problem until I installed Total Protection

Any help would be appreciated.

Max

Re: Real-Time Scanning prevents creating shortcuts

Will ping Dinz as he said this never seen before mine for instance on Win7 home 64 bit the shortcuts work as normal.

A thought was this an install of 2011 or did it update from 2010 automatically?

Re: Real-Time Scanning prevents creating shortcuts

I am experiencing this issue on my new Dell XPS Windows 7 64-bit laptop.

Issue is exactly as described above. I can create shortcuts only when Real Time Scanning is turned off.

The above suggested solution does not fix the issue. I would appreciate a fix ASAP. Can this issue be raised to the development team?

Dinz said noone replied to his initial request to allow him to call the 1st 2 posters here. Did any of you contact chat via the technical service link in useful links tab above? If so do you have a service request number?

PM Dinz if you want him to call you to help diagnose the issue. PM available by clicking on his name.

Re: Real-Time Scanning prevents creating shortcuts

Hmmm, I thought I did reply. Doesn't matter as there is a way around this!!!

If you want to make a shortcut to a web page, while on that page, right click in a "neutral" area and you will get a popup menu which has a "create shortcut" item on the list. Just click it and, there is your shortcut on the desktop!!!

Happily yours, Max 🙂
