Re: Problems with downloading Adobe Acrobat XI (11.0.07)

Rather than creating an entirely different thread, since we seem to be on (Adobe) products-Downloads. I personally felt it notable to post this article from www.krebsonsecurity.com  as I find his commentary most informative, and spot on in regards to the most recent Security breaches/exploits etc.

This insert is in regards to the "Adobe Shockwave Player". As the article states, if you have it installed it is recommended to (Uninstall). As everyone knows, Adobe Flash Player itself is a Target in itself for vulnerabilities. Hence the monthly/Out of Band Emergency Updates due to the ever increasing attempts to inject "Zero-Day" Vulnerabilities.

Of course the majority of Malware writers, target the most used Programs/Applications in the first place. One only has to look at the most recent (Hacking) of the RSA Convention, and the ever increasing attacks on "Apple Products/Mac. That,s right....What use to be construed to be far more superior to Windows as your choice of OS, is unfortunately being proven to not be the case.

One can make the argument on how effective/or ineffective a Anti-Virus Solution may be. That can be considered a "Double-Edged Sword,if you will. If anyone is even remotely knowledgeable of todays Technology. (No) individual Anti-Virus Solution is/or can be 100%...Period.

I have been a loyal McAfee subscriber for over 11 years now, and even though occasionally it has it,s "Burps". (What Product Doesn,t?) Yet when in comparison to other Products available, I choose to stick with what has year after year, protected me more so than any other I have tried.

I might add in addition, that simply this Forum alone, shows that you indeed have somewhere to go, to report any issues that may arise. Now I digress....The forementioned Article from Brian Krebs can be found HERE

Kindest Regards,

Re: Problems with downloading Adobe Acrobat XI (11.0.07)

Hi catdaddy,

Thank you for the link - I think I've read this (or something similar) before recently, especially regarding what happened to ebay.

I uninstalled Shockwave a few months ago as I'd heard it was potentially dodgy, along with Flash and Java (which I usually keep disabled) - and have run into far fewer threats since, especially after disabling Java.

Hi Both,

My two cents. You keep the above products disabled. All (Shockwave, Flash Player and Java), are installed on my computers and enabled. Since the article that you mentioned has been written, these products have been updated / upgraded.

I have begun using Outlook 2007, instead of Outlook Express, largely because of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit operating system, does not have Outlook Express. Outlook 2007 protects one from bad emails by showing who sent them. And when you hover your mouse overtop a link, it tells you, exactly where you are going to, For Example: http://www.tigerdirect.com/indexus.asp? .

@thecreator,

You stated, "You keep the above products disabled"? Then followed by saying (All Shockwave,Flash Player and Java),are installed on my computers and enabled. Since the article that you mentioned has been written, these products have been updated/upgraded?

With all due respect,I admire your knowledge. While I am in total agreement that " Adobe Flash Player has indeed been (Updated/Upgraded) and quite possibly (Shockwave Flash Player) as well. However,as the article stipulated.... "Shockwave Flash Player "(Lags behind) in all aspects.

Far greater minds than mine, have determined, for Security purposes that "Shockwave Flash Player "is a High risk, and best to not be installed. I fully agree with the statement that ( Windows 7 Service Pack 1) does not truly support (Outlook Express) instead utilizes (Windows Live) which is indeed not the same.

I also agree that "Adobe Flash Player" has indeed been updated (13.0.0.214). However, please broaden my "Horizons" and give me the most recent (Update/upgrade) incorporated by Adobe "Shockwave Flash Player".

Again, with all due respect. I still stand by as the Krebs Article stipulated, (Uninstall Shockwave Flash Player) if installed. It simply is not worth the risk...JMHO and others far more intelligent as I.

             Kindest Regards,

BTW....The link you inserted directs one to a (Weather Forecast) in Maryland? Windsor, if Iam not terribly mistaken.

I do have a "Daughter-Grand-Daughter" whom stays in Towson, Maryland, which gives me the weather forecast, before traversing up to visit.

Re: Problems with downloading Adobe Acrobat XI (11.0.07)

Hi Cliff,

BTW, that is correct, but the point I was making, is that People, who send out Phishing Emails, and Emails intended to want you to click on a link to get somewhere where you want to go, but the link takes you to a different place, often time to introduce Viruses on your computer.  For example, if I were sending out an email, offering you a chance to save money with TigerDirect, but you click on a link that takes you to a fake TigerDirect.com site.

Yes to CBS Baltimore or WJZ-TV Weather site, but it said that you were going to TigerDirect.com on the outside.

In Outlook 2007, it would tell you, where you were going, by holding the mouse over the link.

You said: " I fully agree with the statement that ( Windows 7 Service Pack 1) does not truly support (Outlook Express) instead utilizes (Windows Live) which is indeed not the same."  Windows 7 operating systems does not come with Windows Live. The User had to download it and install it.
