BigJ thanks yes that would be my issue as well maybe that also affects the scheduled scan starting will ask re a disabling option none there as far as I see.

I wonder if gadgets running affect it?  due for a update in 10 minutes so will not touch PC till then.

Hi Tony another thing I find annoying with 2010 product is if I know my next update is supposed to happen at a certain time and turn my router off before that time it still tries to update with internet turned off. If I wait for a half hour after update is supposed to happen the time for next update will go ahead 4 hours or so. Why does this happen with internet turned off? Previous versions would wait until I am connected to the internet. McAfee has really been going down hill with latest 2010 version.

Re: One Last Question

Ok did not update at time specified nor next as I touched the mouse. It did update with motherboard monitoring and gadgets running so more sensitive to proper programs  running.

I will mention checking when net off  it resets +4 hrs after every check. I have asked for option to set more often checks as I am finding I mis a day's updates as I turn on the Pc inbetween updates and off before it.

Tony please do not forget to ask for an option to turn on or off smart timer as the programs I usually run will not update on automatic updates as I explained before. It should know when you are not using the mouse. I should not have to turn yahoo messenger and weather watcher off to get auto updates. Thanks

Jerry,  How did you manage to find that information? I thought that I had searched everything to do with McAfee looking for anythig that was not in the help files.

I have to agree with this statement 100%. This so called Smart Timer is a disaster. I don't even expect to get automatic updates any more and just do it manually as I have tried stopping doing anything 5 minutes before it says an update is due and it still won't do them. I just have to much going on in my computers to stop all processes and everything so the darn thing will update automatically.I also have noticed that when I am off line it jumps ahead a few hours.

I really liked the old Interface much better and the sounds with the update and alerts. I think this 2010 version has just been gutted to much. And I can't see where that Smart Timer helps anything as my other computer with the old version doesn't slow down when it is updating. I just had it on and it updated while I was reading my e-mails. It will also update when I am on the desktop doing anything and I do not see any difference in speed.Maybe if I took my digital stop watch and timed it it would show a  hundreds of a second difference but I doubt it.

McAfee has really been going down hill with latest 2010 version.  That statement pretty well sums up several peoples feelings around here.

Re: One Last Question

Techs looking deeper into this. there is a fix coming for a scheduled scan starting issue that might impact on updates as well but I will await reply from the techs re smart timer query

Tony hope McAfee's techs add a on or off option for this stupid dumb smart timer. I have a computer to use and not to run any programs that I always run is dumd just so 2010 version will update. Think if windows automatic updates worked like McAfees smart timer. Windows would never get updated as who runs a computer doing absolutely nothing on it so updates come through? I should not have to keep manually updating to get latest dat updates. I know I am ranting now but whoever thought of this smart timer is not smart at all in my opinion. Anyway Tony thanks for bringing it to their attention.

Thanks for bringing this issue to the techs notice. Jerry's statement is exactly the way I and many others in this area feel. I would have to shut down everything in my computer to make this so called Smart Timer work and even then I am not sure it would automatically update. I have been doing it manually but this is not going to last for to long.  I agree that whoever thought up this so called Smart Timer is not so intelligent as they should know that computers are always doing stuff in the background. Maybe before McAfee dumps their next great improvement on the public they should have the techs run it on theirs for a month or so and get the bugs out. Is there any way to go back to the version it replaced?

Re: One Last Question

NO way 2009 is toast if you updated. Restoring a backup gets you 2009 till the next update.

I will add this issue as a feature request in the beta version might get noticed.
