Very often when I boot up my desktop I get a McAfee popup telling me that my computer is in danger and that Virus and Spyware protection are turned off. I click on the baloon to open Mcafee and the virus and spyware option does show red but will not turrn on. I have to reboot but sometime the reboot hangs so I have to use the restart button Only once did I get a message on the reboot attempt saying that some McAfee program was not responding.

Have you tried using McAfee Virtual Technician?
It can sometimes help you in your problems, You can find it under useful links at the top of the page.
Or go here: http://service.mcafee.com/TechSupportHome.aspx
Thank you for the response.
OS is Windows XP, SP3 all up to date.
Connected via AT&T U-Verse DSL
I have Malwarebytes installed
I am attaching a word document with a screen shot. I hope that is what you asked for.
Thank you for the response. Yes , Virtual technician is run everytime I access the McAfee support site.
Bob,
Running couple of malware programs might create conflicts especially during its update process. Please try to uninstall the malware bytes and restart the computer and check if McAfee still says virus protection is turned off. If yes, please get me a screen shot of that so that would make things easier.
Also, get me the session id number of your McAfee virtual technician.
Regards,
Dinz
