McSvHost.exe McAfee Service Host has encountered a problem and must close

While surfing the Internet in IE8 on XP-SP3 machine using McAfee 2012 at various times I receive this message.  It may have started when I installed FF8, I've now deleted FF8, installed IE8 and reinstalled McAfee.

Support deleted a few McAfee files they referred to as "Hacker Files" they said were old.  I've seen this as a solution for other McSvHost.exe issues in startup and shutdown.

I've also run McAfee Virtual Technician (MVT) without it finding issues.

My problem still occurs.

Sorry for opening a new issue after updating someone else's issue.  This has gotten annoying.

I believe the problem is Net Guard.

I have been encountering the same problem for a few weeks now.

After reading these boards, someone suggested turning off Net Guard.

I tried it today and I have not received the error message once.  By comparison, I receved the error every day for the last week, sometimes twice a day.

I also get exactly the same issue and error message; didn't start happening until 2-3 months ago.. Is there a fix yet?

Dell Inspiron

Total Protection

IE8

Annoying.

Not yet sorry. Have you seen if disabling netguard does help? It is a setting in firewall settings.

Re: McSvHost.exe McAfee Service Host has encountered a problem and must close

I have the same error message "McAfee Service Host has encountered a problem and must close"

and another "Synchronisation Application has encountered a problem and must close".

I turned off NetGuard, rebooted the computer but it have not helped.

I observe this error since ca Dec 17, 2011.

Either it's connected with my new license (IS 2012) or there was an update (mcafee update) at this time which made something in the system.

I elaready reinstalled McAfee Internet Security (untinalled using MCPR, remove temporary files, installed from Internet) but it has not helped.

I run also other virus scanners (Kasperski, Norton, Microsoft) but only one of them shown some AdWare entries in registry.

So I'm stacked.

The only help from McAfee support was "format computer" (that's original text :-), should be "format disk" or "reinstall system").

Double check that netguard is off. If it is andfrom the posts this is the cause you can try also enabling netguard but uninstall siteadvisor and reinstall the new Siteadvisor beta from here

https://sadownload.mcafee.com/products/SA/beta/saSetup.exe
