Manually Deleting Quarantined items

Hi

My quarantine directory contains over 16,000 .bup files, trying to delete them through McAfee interface is impossible due to long running script.

I have read about deleting them manually.

My question is the quarantine directory also contains two files namely mcqt.txt the contents of which is only mcqt.txt and another file called Quarantine.db.

Should I also delete the Quarantine.db file when I delete the bup files? I guess this db files relates to the quarantined file and so should also be deleted. Is this correct?

Many thanks

Re: Manually Deleting Quarantined items

Delete .db files as well they say delete all files

It's a known issue, when there are too many the deletion jams up.   You can physically remove them from within the Windows environment.

First double-click the taskbar icon to open SecurityCenter

Click Navigation (top right)

Click General Settings & Alerts (left)

Click Access Protection to expand that section

Uncheck Access Protection and click Apply

Leave SecurityCenter open on your desktop because you should re-enable Access Protection after the following steps.

Go to C:\ProgramData\McAfee\VirusScan\Quarantine and click Edit/Select All

Click Shift and Delete simultaneously and the folder should empty.

Take care to delete only the contents of that folder, not the folder itself.

Re-enable Access Protection as mentioned above and click Apply and then exit SecurityCenter.

Those instructions are for Vista/Windows 7.

Re: Manually Deleting Quarantined items

leave what as is?

I have already got rid of the bup file and I guess the the .db files relates to the .bup and should go as well.

There is also a large text file OAS.log under VirusScan/Logs which seems to be a list of items in the Quarantine directory.
