Laptop hibernates when scan starts

my asus amd A8 using windows 8.1 goes into deep sleep when the mcafee scan starts. task manager indicates mcafee is using 100 per cent of disc during this time. i've tried many options in Power Options but nothing seems to work. it must be a mcafee problem. anyone got a solution?

Re: Laptop hibernates when scan starts

Try running the virtual technician from www.mvt.mcafee.com. Post the session id number here after you run it.

Did you ever have another scanner installed and removed it. They should be removed by their own removal tool to clean up left overs that could clash with McAfee. There are other suggestions but we will see what your answers are to the above.

What is the version of McAfee you have installed.

Hi

Am with Support and haven't came across such issues. Please check the below items and post back.

Open McAfee GUI > Real Time Scanning > Scheduled Scans > Uncheck "Scan using minimal resources" and "Start Scan only when PC is plugged in" Refer below image

Re: Laptop hibernates when scan starts

Moved this to VirusScan as a better spot for it.

Hi Chris,

Open Security Center. Click on Navigation on the Top Right Side. Click on General Settings and Alerts.

Uncheck "Wait until my PC is idle to run scheduled tasks like scans, automatic update, and QuickClean."

This way, it should not wait to run when your computer is idle.

Re: Laptop hibernates when scan starts

I found on in settings that said Minimise the effect on PCs speed. I checked that and I'll see how it goes, then I'll try the other suggestion if that doesn't work. thanks for the other suggestions. I'll try them too. I'll come back and let you know how it goes.

Re: Laptop hibernates when scan starts

that didn't work and I tried selvan's. that didn't work either. Even with the scan paused hibernates. and even if it's idle. I'll try the one from thecreator and get back.

Re: Laptop hibernates when scan starts

No, thanks thecreator but that made no difference. Took ages to even get the settings up because it kept hibernating while i was trying to do it, and wouldn't let me cancel. eventually rebooted and managed to disable Scheduled Scans. That's about the best hope so far. Next will be to uninstall it I suppose.

Re: Laptop hibernates when scan starts

This is a strange problem.

1) Try uninstalling McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool and the instructions on this page. Restart the computer and re-install McAfee.

2) If that does not work, go to Windows Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options. Check the settings under Change When The Computer Sleeps. Let's see what those settings are set to.

Re: Laptop hibernates when scan starts

That will be my next bet. I've already gone through every conceivable setting in Power Options. Won't do it today though as I need to get some work done. I'll update once I've tried it.
