Is this Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)?  I know this sounds like a strange question but have you upgraded IE to IE9 yet?   McAfee uses IE as an interface and requires the latest version at default settings.

Also what's the name of the McAfee software installed?   Open it and tell me what it says and if ther eis an About button please post the version of SecurityCenter installed.

The first thing I can think of is to try the Virtual Technician to see if it finds and fixes problems:  http://mvt.mcafee.com/
