Fake McAfee Warning About Registry Changes

One of my computers received a fake warning from McAfee that some program was trying to change the registry. My wife clicked the option for blocking the change. Now the computer boots only to a blank desktop. The wallpaper is there without icons.

Does anyone know what infected the computer and how to remove it?

Thanks.

Re: Fake McAfee Warning About Registry Changes

Hi westpro4,

Check that you dont have the icons hidden automatically.
Right click your desktop -> Select "Arrange Icons By"
Verify that the option to "Show Desktop Icons" is checked.

Hit Ctrl+Alt+del , from the task manager , hit the Applications tab

Click on New task , In the open space type explorer.exe and click OK and check whether  the desktop icons reappear .

Regards,

Dinesh K
