Does McAfee look at file Code Signing when performing a virus scan on a file

Jump to solution

Does McAfee look at file Code Signing with Digital Certificates when performing a virus scan on a file?

Is it a factor when considering if a file is dangerous our not?

If a developer build a software release and it is not code signed with a digital certificate, can it lead to false positives.

Yes. Use of digital certificates are one of multiple factors in establishing trustworthiness. Developers are encouraged to sign their code.

While false positive rates are very low, they are even more uncommon on signed files.

Absolutely. The utilization of digital certificates serves as one of the various elements contributing to the establishment of trustworthiness. It is highly advisable for developers to affix their signatures to their code.

It's worth noting that false positive occurrences are quite rare, and they become even scarcer when dealing with signed files. This unique feature enhances the overall reliability of the system.

Hi @EricReiss

Greetings from McAfee,

A false positive occurs when your virus scanner incorrectly identifies a clean or harmless file as being infected by malware.

Please refer TS103032 for more information.
