Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

I discontinued using Scheduled Scan since it scans all local drives - which I don't want. Therefore I switched to Custom Scan and ticked as the Default Locations to Scan: C:, D:, E: (all local hard drives). Unfortunately the scan continues with F: and I: (also local hard drives), which are copies of 😧 and E:. I don't want that to happen: it proglongs the scan unnecessarily.
Why doesn't it behave as I expect it to do? Is there a way to get it to ignore F: and I: ?

I use XP pro build 2600 SP3.

RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

I just tested that on mine as I have 6 partitions holding 4 different operating systems so it's easy to pick and choose. I chose C: only and it scanned C: only using the Quick Scan and Let Me Choose options.

Did you uncheck the items at the top as in the attached thumbnail? (Click to enlarge).

Incidentally I hadn't scanned in a while and to my chagrin it detected a customization file from my new PC maker as a trojan....LOL, Well, I'll deal with that later.

No, I had those ticked as well. I didn't see the necessity of unchecking them. I will try that. Thank you.

I still don't understand why the scanning would extend to the other local drives as well if you leave these checkboxes on...

RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

Well I theorize possibly wrongly that those top items would apply to all drives.

RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

I did as you suggested: I only ticked the C, D, and E drives - nothing else. Nevertheless a custom scan continued after having done these three drives with the F and I drives!

So Custom Scan just doesn't do what it is supposed to do?

Strange. Perhaps it's best to contact Technical Support Chat (link at top left of page or in my signature).

It doesn't do that on mine, and the only thing I can think of is that it may do that if files or folders are cross-linked between drives somehow.

RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

There must be something seriously wrong: I did as you suggested and tried Technical Support Chat. It requested me to run MVT. I did. It produces an exception (Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b0bf7c 4 75b0bf7c 75b0bf7c) and never ends while checking the registry. I had to cancel.
I cannot continue the TSC unless the MTV has ended.

What am I to do? I am pretty desperate...

Can you end task in Task Manager?

What task do you mean? I cancelled the MVT and that is it. Customer Service Online Chat requires you to finish the MVT first, and I can't.

I misunderstood sorry, I though you couldn't stop the MVT from running. You can bypass it by using the link in my signature to Technical Support Chat.
