RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

No I can't because it requires me to run the MVT first! There is no bypass I can see.

RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

I just went through the exercise and got to the chat client without running MVT.

The link in my signature is http://service.mcafee.com/LocaleSelect.aspx?lc=1033&sg=TS&pt=1&st=CHAT and pick the United States because Nederland's is only open Monday to Friday I believe.

If not enable Windows Firewall and follow this...

1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".

2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MC... This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)

3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!
In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
If you can't find these files don't worry. It just means that MCPR has done its job.

4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site.

RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

OK, I got the chat session allright. It didn't help - not even a session in which I had my desktop taken over by the other party.
A telephone call today also was not helpful: the connection was very bad and the man talked very fast and softly. I couldn't make anything of what he said.

I do not want anymore action to be taken: I thank you and others for their efforts. I will be fine with McAfee as it is.

Well, sorry I couldn't help. I'll leave the topic open just in case. Good luck.

RE: Custom Scan keeps scanning ALL local drives

As far as I am concerned the subject may be closed. I don't use custom scans anymore since they are not shown as having taken place when I inspect the opening screen of McAfee. No way to check whether the scan took place or not that I can find...

Click View Log (right)
Click Computer & Files (left) to expand ihe tree

Ex_Brit: thank you!

I guess I'll never get to know how to use the McAfee UI!! I do see the previous custom scans in one of the logs...
