Can't Install VirusScan Plus 2009 3-User

I am facing a similar situation as wxscan's solved problem on 2/11/09 but this time is "Remove Norton AntiVirus 2002." Don't be surprise, it is a 6 year old computer and running on a Win 2K OS and never install any antivirus program after Norton AntiVirus 2002 was deleted.

When attempting to install McAfee VirusScan Plus 2009 3-User version, it says I need to remove Norton AntiVirus 2002. I searched to make sure everythings related to Norton or Symantec files or folders had been deleted, deleted its folder in Program Files, and deleted its folder in Application Data. restarted the computer several times but McAfee still says I need to remove Norton AntiVirus 2002. I did the way as Ex_Brit instructed to enter regedit and this time I delete the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/SYMANTEC.

After I restarted the PC then run installation, again it says Remove Norton AntiVirus 2002. I also use McAfee Virtual Technician already.

I don't know what else to do. I used the recommenced setting of downloading the most current version of McAfee online first then I'm trying to install from a box version
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thank you!

RE: Can't Install VirusScan Plus 2009 3-User

Only use this if you cannot uninstall Norton AntiVirus through Add/Remove Programs. Uninstalling Norton AntiVirus through Windows does a more thorough job of removing the program.

# Click Rnav2003.exe utility to start the download.
# Click Save.
# Change the location in the Save in field to Desktop, and then click Save.
# Double-click the Rnav2003.exe icon on the Desktop to launch the application.

On the RNAV Question screen, click No to continue the process.

To remove Norton AntiVirus entries from the Windows Task Scheduler

1. On the Windows desktop, click the Start button > Programs > Accessories > System Tools.
2. Click Scheduled Tasks.
3. Right-click each entry that refers to Norton AntiVirus or Symantec, and then click delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
4. Close the Scheduled Tasks window.

If you cannot run Rnav2003.exe successfully contacted Norton support for a manual assist.

Aloha Vinod_r2,

You did it. The Rnav2003.exe could clean up the trash from Norton. Is it people talking about MS uninstaller could not do the job?! And I also deleted the item from Scheduler. After that, the McAfee installer just flies.

You make me as a happy member.

Mahalo.
