Activation won't stick

When I first installed VirusScan 13, it activated with no apparent problems, using account from previous versions. It said my subscription would expire in one year. But now it always says, "please activate your subscription." It gives a pop-up to request activation. I've done that twice now, and no apparent errors, but doesn't stick. Help says I can click on "please activate" on the security center home page to initiate activation, but that doesn't work; only the pop-up, which only appears briefly. My online Mcafee account shows my latest activation expires in 9/20/2009. I ran virtual technician, and it fixed two registry problems, but did not fix original problem.

If yes
do a full windows update (including option updates)
remove all McAfee from the computer
run this
reboot
install via your online account.
