ALL files saying Virus Scan failed.

Hi guys,

Sorry I know this has been posted before, but none of the solutions have worked for me.

I can't open any downloaded files because of "virus scan failed". Does anyone know tricks to fix this? Or is it easier to uninstall the software and get a better antivirus software (if someone can recommend one without all the bugs McAfee has I'll be so grateful!)

I've tried deleting the Web Advisor folder. It doesn't work as it always says it is open in another program (even if I've just restarted the computer and not touched anything).

I've tried adjusting settings in McAfee.

I don't think contacting McAfee to get them to do the reinstall is an option for me either, as they simply won't respond to me. I've tried contacting McAfees Online chat for help but have never gotten a reply from them and it always times out. I've left my email on their chat begging for a reply and for some help but they simply won't respond to any of the requests I've put in over the last month or so. Has anyone else had this problem? Do they have an email or phone number we can contact? Their service is so unprofessional.... would love to hear tips on how people have convinced them to reply their queries!

Thank you. Unfortunately it will not allow me to do this for some reason.

Re: ALL files saying Virus Scan failed.

Thanks.
- I'm trying to download from Chrome. It has always worked previously, and this is the only browser I can use to access my remote desktop for work.
- No idea what version I have, but I have an icon called "McAfee Total Protection"
- I have Windows 7
- Download fails for every single file.

Re: ALL files saying Virus Scan failed.

Hi @Hollysutton12

Thank you for the information. This issue is related to WebAdvisor.

Please follow the below steps to uninstall & reinstall McAfee WebAdvisor and the issue will get sorted out.

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Uninstall McAfee WebAdvisor
  • Open browsers
  • Check if WebAdvisor appears under extensions
  • Remove it and restart the computer
  • Install McAfee WebAdvisor
  • After installing, open Chrome, Firefox or Edge
  • It will prompt you to add the extension on the browser
  • The prompt will appear at top right
  • After enabling the extension, try to download files
  • It should work fine

Please let me know the outcome or any further help needed.

Regards,
Madhan M

Re: ALL files saying Virus Scan failed.

Hi there,

As stated earlier, I am not able to uninstall Web Advisor. I have tried deleting it from Chrome and restarting my computer, but if I try to delete I get an error message stating this is not possible as it is opened in another program.

If there is a trick to getting McAfee stuff off my computer, I'd love to hear it.error message.png

Re: ALL files saying Virus Scan failed.

Maybe reboot and uninstall Mcafee fully as per

How to remove McAfee

rebooting between each part and reinstall it fully if you wish
