This morning I intended to start my scan. There was no McAfee logo on the bottom of the screen. I went to the search and clicked where it said "McAfee" and nothing happened. I clicked on "McAfee Virtual Technician" and it started searching for a McAfee product. An hour later it was still searching.
I called tech support and they tried to take control of my computer (different issue, but still serious) and the software to do that never got past "running security scan". The person figured out how to solve that problem and told me to restart my computer. Immediately, the McAfee logo appeared. All of my problems were solved (almost) before we finished. The tech support person said it might have been as simple as restarting the computer. It took two hours to deal with all this. Anyone know what could have happened?
A suspected cause, which the person may have focused too much on when the problem of taking control of my computer was solved, was a message I ignored saying my McAfee subscription had expired and click here to download. That was on another web site.
By the way, my computer froze and I had to quit the scan. Meaning I had to turn off the computer. No, I'm not starting it over until I am through on the computer. And I don't know why an hour after we finished all that it was only at 5 percent.
Hi @vchimpanzee
Let us know the McAfee and OS version. Could you try runing MVT and see if it fixes the issue. If not please try Removing McAfee and Re-install McAfee
How do I find out what version of either one?
Also, there's no way to know if the problem was solved. All I can say is that it hasn't happened since the tech support person got through.
Hi @vchimpanzee
We sent a private message, please reply to that.
I don't think there's a problem to solve any more.
During the installation of major update for McAfee, the McAfee icon might get disappeared for a while until update installation is completed. Some major McAfee update may requires a system reboot.
